Helpful staff and good food

We were helped to charge our electric car; we also had a very good dinner and breakfast. Comfortable, clean, friendly and helpful - an ideal hotel.
Falls well short of a 4 star hotel currently.

Big room, good wifi, comfy beds, secure parking. Thereby end the positives ! Room negatives - no air con, thin scratchy towels, no bath/shower gel, mould on bathroom ceiling, cracked/broken tiles. Reception negatives - no attention paid to prior request for quiet, twin room. Given a double room , closest to busy road junction as physically possible. On returning to reception to have this changed, receptionist absent for considerable time, only back at station when 2nd guest used mobile to ring hotel whilst in queue. Receptionist then clearly unable to navigate computer system to reallocate room. Needed assistance. Took some time. Tried to make joke at end. Bad joke and inappropriate. He clearly loves chat but does not deliver 4 star impression. Pool - untidy, unkempt surrounds (as were the whole hotel grounds) WORSE was the green algae line around the pool interior wall. Didn't bother with it. Restaurant - evening meal very limited choice. 3 basic starters. Mains were burger/Caesar salad/salmon. The room is tired/dilapidated. This is not "brushed over" by the so-called hip redecorating. Breakfast - the heating elements under eggs/sausage/bacon had been turned off. Result was coagulated mess. When this was called to the attention of the serveuse (in French) my sole reply from her was "The guests turn it off" and I mean SOLE reply, no sorry, no I will deal with it, nothing. I am a regular overnighter in the Reims area. Usually Tinqueux side (Novotel etc) I was looking forward to this change to a Mercure 4 star. It was AWFUL. Daylight robbery at close to 120 Euros B & B. I have taken the time to write in this constructed detail to help you as well as to complain. Please do not play the "Covid" card to try to explain such inadequacies. We had 3 overnights on the way to the Alps, 3 on the way back. Other hotels of lesser standing coped far better. Yours was the most expensive stay, bar one. Your staff were indubitably the worst team we encountered. You have my permission to put this review on your platform in full, but I guess you won't. You do not have my permission to be selective - all or nothing. What I do expect is a reply reflective of this detailed submission. Awaiting such reply. Yours in anticipation,
Not a 4 star hotel.

Very friendly staff and good parking, but a very short menu and even a shorter winelist. The garden around the hotel hasn't seen a garderner for a long time. The surrounding af the pool was durty with a lots of waste, plastic, paper and cigarette ends. It was nearly the same at a Mercure hotel in Hannover last year. So sorry no more Mercure hotels.

The service we received was good from attentive personnel. The restaurant was fine given not only Covid but it was also national day. Location is convenient and easy to find. A major problem that needs to be fixed is the air conditioning in the room. I don't know if the problem is general or specific to our room but whatever we did to the air condition controller the room remained airless and too hot.
Very well situated for a visit to the Champagne region

The hotel has a fresh look, street art style but still a very welcoming feel to it. The menu is not that elaborate but the dishes are prepared well. A big improvement would be a vegetarian dish (or more than one) and allergy info. Normal information/questions in other countries and I would expect a chain like Accor / Mercure would be up to speed on that.
