Excellent hotel. A little difficult to find unless you have up to date satnav. Limited choice of evening bar meals but fine for us. Good breakfast. Fuel nearby.

Roy K. Families - Confirmed reviews ALL

Good instinct—leading with “mixed” weakens the impact and frames everything negatively before you’ve established credibility. Here’s the revised version with a stronger opening anchored in the staff: ⸻ We stayed as a family of two adults and one baby, and the standout aspect of our stay was the staff. It’s genuinely hard to fault them. They were consistently helpful, thoughtful, and efficient throughout, and every interaction was handled with care and professionalism. When travelling with a baby, that level of attentiveness really matters and was much appreciated. The room itself, however, was on the small side. We had a double bed and a double sofa bed, which made the space feel quite tight once everything was set up. It’s manageable, but not especially comfortable if you’re spending any real time in the room beyond sleeping. On the positive side, the shower area was surprisingly generous, and the bathroom overall was perfectly functional and well laid out. That said, in a family room, having only a single hook in the bathroom is an obvious oversight—there simply isn’t enough space to hang towels or clothes for multiple people, and it quickly becomes impractical. There were a few touches in the room that felt slightly underthought. The large TV, for example, felt excessive given the limited space and went completely unused. The coffee setup included a couple of Nespresso pods plus one decaf, which is fine in principle, but it felt minimal. A slightly more generous and varied offering—such as a proper strong espresso, a lungo, and a decaf replenished daily—would elevate the experience quite easily, especially given the price point. The decor is quite distinctive, but not necessarily in a positive way. The bright yellow workman helmets displayed throughout the lobby and rooms—presumably tied to the area’s history—felt garish and somewhat unappealing. It’s a bold design choice, but one that doesn’t create a particularly relaxing or refined atmosphere. One of the biggest issues, in our view, is the lack of a calm, comfortable communal space. There is only a small seating area, which in the evening becomes extremely loud. The entire floor fills with high-volume pop music, making it feel more like a casual bar than a hotel space where guests might want to unwind. With my wife and baby asleep upstairs, I came down hoping for a quiet drink and some downtime, but it was far from relaxing. There is no quiet zone at all, which feels like a significant oversight. A hotel should provide at least one space where guests can decompress, especially after travel. On a more positive note, the Brita water fountain offering free still and sparkling water is a genuinely nice touch and aligns well with modern expectations. However, the lack of a simple vending machine feels like a miss. Selling basic sweets at €3 behind the bar feels both overpriced and slightly off-brand compared to the otherwise casual positioning of the hotel. Another operational issue is the merging of reception and bar service into a single desk. In the evening, this becomes particularly frustrating. If you need something simple—like an extra pillow—you can find yourself waiting while someone orders food, pays a bar tab, or spends several minutes deciding what they want. After a long journey, basic guest requests should be quick and easy to handle. Separating these functions, even partially, would significantly improve the experience. Breakfast was included and broadly met expectations. The coffee was actually surprisingly good, which is always appreciated. The only real issue was the “boil your own eggs” concept. It’s a nice idea in theory, but in practice it didn’t work—the water wasn’t hot enough. After eight minutes, the eggs were still too soft to eat. Small details like this matter, because they shape the overall impression. Ultimately, the biggest question is value. If this stay had been priced in the €75–€90 range, it would feel fair and aligned with the offering—a solid, slightly quirky, functional hotel with great staff and a few compromises. However, at €130 per night, it starts to compete with genuine four-star options, and at that level, the shortcomings become much more noticeable. The experience simply doesn’t quite match the price. In summary: excellent staff, decent basics, but let down by design choices, lack of quiet space, and operational inefficiencies. A good stay—but not, in our view, good value at the rate we paid.
