We arrive at the hotel at 1O PM and get to our room (online check-in). We open the door and feel a strong bad odor. We call reception and the kind lady at the desk comes with some air freshener, which probes to be totally useless. The room is unusable and the hotel is fully booked. She calls her manager. The manager provides little or no assistance. The receptionist looks for another hotel with available rooms: the Ibis Styles. We go there to find out that the only room available is not usable because it can not be opened with a magnetic card (broken lock). Besides that, the hotel has no parking, which was a requirement for us that we made explicitly clear. It is midnight and we decide to look for another hotel on our own. We find a room in a nice hotel in Angoulême (more than 100 Km away). After having driven more than 500 Km in that evening, here we go adding 100 Km. to the count... We finally arrive to Angoulême and take our room at 1 AM the next day. No message from the hotel director, no apologies, no compensation for what clearly was a situation mismanaged by the hotel and for which the hotel was responsible. We are extremely disappointed by the lack of service mind. Only the receptionist tried to help, but she was left completely unassisted and alone to handle a situation that was beyond her.

When I arrived, there were a number of issues in my room. One of the light bulbs was burnt out, the phone did not work, the shower was plugged up and flooded the bathroom. But, whenever we had a problem, it got fixed immediately. Of course, it would be better if everything worked upon arrival, but the responsiveness and friendliness of the staff was refreshing. Overall, we loved the hotel: Beautiful room with a very comfortable bed and nice pillows (not the clumpy old kind offered in many hotels). The place was extremely clean and very pleasantly decorated. We liked our stay a lot and will recommend this hotel to our friends.

Tired hotel, staff appeared downtrodden. Room well below standard, facilities poor & cleanliness unacceptable. No way is it 4 star. Room had an empty plastic bottle in the bathroom unit, presumably left by the previous guest, for the 3 days stay. The sink was cracked, paint peeling from the windowsill, no bedside table on 1 side & the bed was made up with a blanked stuffed in a quilt cover (& I'm an Accor Platinum card holder). The gym is an absolute joke & the pool needs a complete refit. Breakfast lacks imagination & is understaffed. On 1 day the 'hot' breakfast (bacon) was cold & the grounds are tatty. Only positive note is that it is convenient for the tram. Best avoided as there are far nicer options in Bordeaux
