We came late and Antoine was kind and helpful and then we went to sleep at around 5.45am.At reception, I had specifically asked about the checkout time. I was told it was 12 noon, and I remember being relieved because we were exhausted and would therefore have several hours to sleep before getting ready to leave. While my husband and I were asleep in our room, an unidentified man opened our door and actually entered the room without knocking. I did not see his face and I do not know who he was or why he entered. I woke suddenly, screamed and jumped up in shock. He simply said “Bonjour” and left without an apology or explanation. This was extremely frightening. It was not simply a matter of someone opening the wrong door. An unknown man had physically entered an occupied room while my husband and I were asleep. I was in my night clothes and completely unprepared for a stranger to enter our private room. As a Muslim woman, privacy and modesty are particularly important to me. I would not even be dressed in this manner in front of many people I know, let alone a complete stranger. I found the experience deeply upsetting and humiliating, quite apart from the obvious security implications. There was also a serious problem with the room's internal safety lock. The door could be closed, but the additional internal lock could not be engaged normally. We could not simply turn it to secure ourselves inside the room. I subsequently reported this to Anna, the receptionist on duty, who kindly came to the room with me to inspect the door. Initially, she also struggled to engage the lock. She eventually had to push the door very firmly and apply considerable pressure before she was able to secure it. I was then told that pressure simply needed to be applied. I do not consider this an adequate or reliable method of securing an occupied hotel room. A guest should not have to know a particular technique, forcefully push or slam a door, or experiment with the locking mechanism in order to make an internal safety lock work. The concern became even more serious because there were further attempts to open occupied rooms. At approximately 8:00 a.m., while we were still in our room and four hours before the stated checkout time, another female member of staff opened our door. Because of what had happened earlier, I was extremely frightened and immediately shouted, “What?” She said something and closed the door. Then, at approximately 9:40 a.m., while I was actually speaking to my sister on the telephone and telling her about what had happened to us, a female member of staff attempted to open my sister's occupied room. My sister had experienced the same difficulty with the internal safety lock. My daughter had suggested placing a bag against the door as an additional precaution. When the woman attempted to open the door, the bag prevented her from entering. My sister asked, “Who’s there?”, and the woman simply closed the door and left. This was deeply unsettling, particularly because it occurred while I was on the telephone with my sister discussing the earlier incident. There was also no telephone in our room through which we could immediately contact reception. Reception was accessed through the neighbouring Ibis Budget building, which made it particularly difficult to seek immediate assistance after such a frightening incident. My concern is that occupied rooms were opened without first knocking and establishing whether guests were inside, while the internal safety lock in our room could not be reliably engaged. I have also been told that guests are expected to display a particular notice if they do not require housekeeping. The notices provided to us are predominantly in French, which I do not understand, and therefore I could not reasonably understand their instructions or implications My concern is specifically with the serious security and privacy failures that occurred during our stay and with the manner in which the issue regarding the door has subsequently been presented as simply a matter of applying pressure.

I would not recommend this hotel to any traveller, not until management makes significant changes that aides travellers on better experience. Poor housekeeping service No room phone to connect reception, you have to travel down the floor and to the other building to see anyone to talk to. No room bin, only a small one in the toilet for sanitary pad. No restaurant No laundry, it’s crazy to recommend such place for holiday travellers.
