Each year, we pick a new (to us) area of France to visit, and this year it was Alsace. Guide books suggested Colmar as a great base and in a quick search of the area, we decided on L'Esquisse. The hotel is located in the green space of a park with a 5 minute walk of the city center. We choose a room with a sitting area and a lovely bathroom. In addition, we had a large balcony that overlooked the trees. The room was very comfortable with service in the morning and turn down service in the evening. We stayed four nights and found the price very reasonable. The hotel's breakfast, while a bit pricey, is not to be missed. There is a great bar in the lobby area, and the whole vibe is very upscale. We did have a rental car, so to have a valet and parking was fabulous. In many city center hotels, this can be a hassle. The concierge helped us make dinner reservations twice and the recommendations were spot on. And last, but not least, the spa. I went down every afternoon for an hour and dipped in the indoor pool, sat in the sauna, whirpool, and steam bath and relaxed. I didn't have any treatments, but the menu looked good. This is one of those hotels where we walked out and said, "we can stay here again".
