Worst hotel experience, definitely not a 4-star hotel

Customer review rating 0.5/5

Ivy K. Solo - Confirmed reviews ALL

First time writing a review for a hotel despite being a frequent traveller. My stay at this hotel was terrible. Room rate was €200 per night (without breakfast) and the hotel is rated 4-star but it absolutely does not justify the 4-star rank nor the price. - I stayed 11 nights. The AC broke down on my 4th night. The staff said they would send a technician to fix it but no one followed up the next day. I went down to check with them the next evening, they then said there would be no technician (ever). They gave me a fan and that was it. I told them a fan was not ideal because it was noisy and it helped with air circulation but did nothing with the temperature (it was summer time in Paris). The staff shrugged his shoulders and was like I can give you one more fan, take it or leave it. - night time staff asked me to talk to day time staff, claiming he was a new comer and there was nothing he could do. Day time staff promised to talk to night time staff but apparently there was no communication. - house keeping was the most TERRIBLE part. Usually between 10am-noon they came. They knocked and stormed right into my room right after they knocked. If I did not yell back “not ready” in one second, they just barged in. There was no “do not disturb” sign. There was no door latch. The door locked from the inside can be unlocked from the outside by any staff. Every day the house keeping person (sometimes a guy sometimes a woman) just stormed into my room while I was still in bed or naked. There was one day, the house keeping person simply opened my door and barged right in WITHOUT even knocking. It was shocking. You never know when or who would just walk into your room. It was the most disrespectful and unprofessional house keeping service I’ve ever experienced. - most days house keeping just tidied the room while I was stil in the room (because they finished for the day by noon). One time, a staff was in such a hurry, she literally banged everything while she was tidying. - some days after the house keeping person tidied the room, the whole room stank with an unbearable smell of sweat… - one night, when I returned to the hotel, the balcony door was left wide open. House keeping person forgot to close it after the service. But there were all kinds of insects on the balcony… - towels are sometimes not clean. Brown stains on white towels. - throughout my 11-day stay, not once did the house keeping person cleared the ashtray provided on the balcony. On the day I left, the ashtray was filled up to the rim with cigarette butts. - no amenities was provided except hand soap & a 2 in 1 shampoo plus body shower gel. No tooth brush/ tooth paste/ slippers/ cotton buds/ shower cap/ comb. So this place is more like a 2 to 3 star hostel. - balcony in the room is not clean. Spider webs everywhere. The inside of the room is also not particularly clean. Dust or spider webs hanging on the wall lamps. - the fridge was not working at all. It’s a box like fridge that served no cooling purpose at all. Whatever I put inside, juice/ milk/ cold cuts, were at room temperature and turned bad after 2-3 days. - throughout my 11-day stay, the staff has replaced the complimentary tea-bags ONCE. The instant coffee & creamer was never ever replaced. - no bottled water provided, of course. I went down to the reception/ restaurant and asked if they have bottled water. Staff gave me a jar of tap water and asked if I wanted it. I asked if I could pay for a bottled water, staff rolled her eyes and shrugged her shoulders again and said no. - shower stand has only half a glass door. Water spilled everywhere on the bathroom floor if you don’t keep the shower to the corner. Water pressure wasn’t great as well. But at least there was abundant hot water. - Hotel is not necessarily in the most convenient location you would hope for. Nearest metro stop is 10 minute away. Biggest problem was there was no convenient store nearby. So if you past the closing time of the nearby supermarket, there was no place you could buy a bottle of water/ drinks. All in all, the decor of this hotel is nice. It looks clean and cute at the reception and lobby area and the room is nicely designed and quite cozy. It’s the service that’s terrible. I would bear with this kind of service if it were a 2 or 3 star hotel, or if the rate was under €100. However, with this price, I really would have expected better service/ amenities.

Do not stay here

Zachary S Families - TripAdvisor review

Please do not stay here. We stayed here in June, so the weather was quite warm already. However, the room did not have a functioning air conditioner, so the lady at the front desk gave us a single small fan which obviously was not able to cool down the room. This inevitably lead to a family member getting a terrible migraine, ultimately ruining their overall experience of Paris. Additionally, the water pressure of the shower was terrible and the rooms toilet paper was never restocked. Do not waste your money on this establishment, it is 100% not worth it.

Weird stay

Overall weird stay, price-quality ratio is bad. + Location + Parking available + Large rooms + Very nice reception area + Welcome drink offered + Flexible invoice options were arranged for us - Carpet in the rooms looks dirty - No English speaking reception - Airconditioning was not working for the whole stay. We had to ask why it has not been working although the staff knew this was ongoing, we could have been informed prior to our stay. We have been offers 2 free drinks as compensation. - Photos and information on the website do not match the situation in the hotel. ( For example breakfast assortment and view). Hotel is not a 4 star hotel - Ongoing construction at the hotel - Very expensive for the hotel quality

Arrived early so room wasn’t available which I understood. Staff provided luggage storage which was appreciated (but expected).. Check in was that & nothing else (no helpful suggestions of where to go & how to get there). Had express breakfast both days & was made sit out near reception like lower class & not made feel a guest of the motel. No cutlery or napkins available/provided! A bad start which wouldn’t have helped as I struggled to find my way to the motel from the airport & linking train services. A helpful pre-check in would be great: providing directions to get to the Motel utilising public transport as well as where to purchase a bus/train ticket & what ticket is most useful for the duration of the stay given I’d be visiting tourist spots (Versailles, Eiffel Tower, Louvre etc…). Not even a map of the area was provided by staff. The room was fine, nothing amazing. Would be nice to offer real milk for tea & coffee drinkers. Also, tea & milk, were not replenished during our entire stay! Cleaning staff barged in on my last morning while I was still using the room (a courtesy knock & wait would’ve been appreciated). Clearly reception knew I hadn’t checked out! Getting to & from the room was slow if I needed to use the lift as it seemed there was only 1 lift. Stairs are fine if guests are agile & not elderly or carrying luggage! Location was suitable, quite neighbourhood except for the last night when business/residence next door must’ve been renovating or something. Loud noises, banging & scraping of furniture in the early hours (5-7am). I was in the last room at the end of the hallway so the noise was not from another Mercure room it was a separate business (next door). When asked if motel had an umbrella staff were helpful & provided one, but it wasn’t offered prior to me asking & it was pouring rain outside! Mercure in Amsterdam have umbrellas available for €3 (could be an option)!
