Arrived and the hotel had made a booking mistake. (I was cancelled due to no-show the day before I was booked to arrive, but correct info in the booking confirmation). But the staff was yelling at me for making the misstake which I clearly did not make. Then I've got a key to another guests room. After going back to reception I've got my key. The room was not nice, and it was old and desperate need of renovation. However the cleaning team did as good job as they could under these circumstances. Breakfast was OK but nothing to write home about.

Very friendly staff but the corridors and the room smelled bad. We discovered mold which can explain the smell. Also there was no way to air the room. The hotel is in high need of renovation.

The room smelt funny, musty, like it had not been used in a long time. The gentleman who came to put our beds together was able to help the smell with ventilation.

So two things happened. First, I found my room a bit too cold (I hate cold) and after I contacted reception, a nice electric spaceheater was deliverd. Room hot in no time. Secondly, I had a brunch organised for 10 of my friends. I reserved for a different date. Notwithstanding I had not given pre-notification, the staf organised the brunch as if nothing happened. Well done is an understatement. Mercure South will always my prime choice whenever I am in Antwerp.
