The wedding we attended was lovely. The events team did a really nice job at facilitating the wishes of the bride and groom. Beautiful grounds and a beautiful backdrop for wedding photos. Free on site parking is a great bonus. But I found the hotel and amenities overall dated and tired. A bit of TLC throughout would go a long way. For example replacing or deep cleaning stained carpets, covering water marks on ceilings, replacing tiles or re-grouting in the swimming pool. Drinks in the bar are also extortionately priced (£5.05 for a pint of Diet Pepsi is crazy!) Uncomfortable and cold first night’s sleep as the quilt inside the cover was far too small and therefore didn’t cover us well. Though we appreciated dressing gowns being provided, they didn’t fit any of us.

Our stay was ruined over two consecutive nights by differnet residents in the next room who had loud domestic disturbances. The first night was spoilt by a couple arguing loudly until 4am. The second night was ruined because a different couple played music loudly, drank heavily, smoked and took drugs in the room. Once past midnight they then began arguing with the threat of violence being offered frequently by both parties. Staff were requested to intervene however this failed to resolve the couple from arguing, even though they were told not to continue smoking in the room (we had an inter connecting door which failed to reduce the noise) On seeing how upset we were and due to the lack of sleep for the second night, we were given a temp room at 03.30hrs so that we could at least get a couple of hours sleep. Upon returning to our room at 07.00hrs, the couple were still shouting and swearing at each other. Upon telling the morning supervisor that i was considering leaving a day early due to this awful experience, the manager upgraded my wife and I to a Prestige room which was on the other side of the hotel. I was later informed by a member of staff the couple had been charged an additional £300 for the damage to the room (spitting on the inside of the windows, the strong smell of smoke / cannabis, multiple empty bottles of rum and leaving the room in a state of disrepair) and as such had been barred from the property. This experience completely ruined our stay which had been booked because I had 3 days earlier attended the funeral of my mother and was looking for a short break to adjust to this loss in an enviroment which was meant to be calm and relaxing. Sadly we experienced the polar opposite. Whilst the staff who dealt with me were all nice and polite, the appitite to confront and deal with unreasonable residents was sadly lacking and as a consequence we had to endure on two seperate occasions the bahaviour of two couples who quite frankly shouldnt have been allowed to stay in the first place. In summary because of the terrible behaviour of other residents we stayed in three rooms over our three night stay.

Overall, we were happy with our stay. However, there were a couple of things that could have been improved; there were no spare pillows in the wardrobe (we only discovered once we were ready for bed!) and the used coffee mugs were left by room service…not washed or replaced. Also, would like robes provided in all rooms. We ate in the restaurant and the food was good. All staff were very pleasant.
