check in was with a very friendly member of staff who told us everything we needed to know, the room was ok food was nice, the leisure facilities were great.

This is a great location. The interior feels rather faded and unsure whether it wants to go upmarket ( good historical base, spacious grounds, worthwhile local history and industrial connections ) or downmarket ( terrible flashing media screens throughout the otherwise wonderfully spacious foyer and lobby, tacky ice-cream 'parlour' ). Some of the carpeting and upholstery, especially the chairs at the breakfast tables are really grubby. This could be a really lovely hotel. We use it because it is near folk we visit in this part of Sheffield. There is a better vibe and standard at the hotel located at the Sheffield United Football ground on Bramall Road but that location is not useful for us. I have written all this to try to be helpful and hope my remarks will be considered.

The grounds are beautiful but the hotel is looking old, tired, and tatty.
I was in a Privilege room, which had some home comforts such as robes and a coffee machine, but the decor is very much not what I would expect for the class of room or the money that I paid.
I'm sure that some people would appreciate the large in-room TV, but it took over the whole of the available desk space, which is nonsense.
The room decor is very much in need of modernisation and the mattress was beyond its best.
The public spaces were generally OK, but signs of 'not being bothered' were abundant. The wall near the far coffee machine is full of screws where things have been hung and removed. There's a pull-across curtain that actually impedes accessing some breakfast items. The carpet looks tired and old fashioned.
Car parking is limited and yet there were four abandoned cars that I saw, with one of them taking up two spaces. I mentioned this to the receptionist who seemed unaware of them, even though they must have been there for a long time.
Whilst staff were pleasant, I noted that when I checked out, I wasn't asked anything about my stay or for any feedback.

Arrived on a wet and windy Friday afternoon. Very noisy reception area the high ceiling did not help. The raised seating area next to bar was spoilt by a pool table being abused by young persons. Gallery Restaurant was not open, even though we booked it. The function/ dining room has some of the most stained and assorted seats I've ever experienced. The food was ok. Breakfast a better experience.

Part of a wedding party, had been advised this hotel from the bride and groom. Expected a lot more from our stay. Arrived and checked in late, my second name was wrong on the booking to start with. When we then got to our room we found to single beds rather than a double room we had booked over the phone months earlier. The bathroom was needing a massive upgrade the bath was pealing off and the mirror all rusting. When getting a shower in the morning there was absolutely no water pressure. It was not an enjoyable or relaxing stay. We were not impressed. Only decent thing about the hotel was the size of the room.

Torn carpets, curtains fell down when closing, bed very old and uncomfortable, bathroom tiles cracked, sealant black with mould. Tried ordering room service but app wasn’t updated with food, only drink. No phone in room to order, had to go to bar, so defeats the objective of room service. Avoid this hotel - there has to be better options in Sheffield!

On the whole we had a very enjoyable stay. Our initial welcome by Nicky was wonderful and helpful. The room wasn’t ready until 16:10 (although we were given a voucher for a free drink each), there were a couple of small issues with the room and the steam room was unfortunately out of order.

I asked for a quite room, it was very noisy, near a staff door which banged everytime staff used, also noise from outside window with nearby ramp with staff wheeling carts etc up it at all hrs, constant noise from radiators in room, didn’t have 1decent nights sleep. Put out list for room service breakfast that didn’t arrive so had to go down to restaurant for toast as was going out and had no time for anything else. Not once did any breakfast staff tell me how to go about breakfast , was shown a table n left to work out for myself, no one was at all bothered. All in all no customer service at all, def not a 4 star hotel, would have better service in a B&B . Also not exactly that clean, plug holes in bathroom need attention, also sealant round sink area turning pink which is a sign of bacteria & dirt.

The one thing that really spoilt our stay with you was the fact that there was a noisy dog in the next room, and if I had done my homework I would have requested a room far away from a dog friendly room, and maybe going forward you need to keep the dog friendly rooms far away from non doggy people. 😒
