I usually stay at Chevron Mantra Towers and have always accepted that the apartments are a bit dated, but the location and convenience have always made up for it. This time, however, we booked the sub-penthouse for a family stay and were quite disappointed with the experience. Several rooms in the apartment were locked and unavailable, including what should have been the main bedroom. From what I understand, the sub-penthouse is typically a 3–4 bedroom apartment, but this one had effectively been reduced to a two-bedroom, with the other rooms blocked off and used for storage. While this might be more understandable in a private Airbnb setup, it was surprising and disappointing for a hotel booking. Additionally, each bed only had a thin throw blanket provided, which was not sufficient given the colder winter nights. When we raised this with reception, we were told to turn up the heat pump as there were no extra blankets available and none could be provided. Unfortunately, the customer service throughout our stay was not helpful or welcoming whenever we approached the front desk. This experience was particularly disappointing as I have consistently chosen Mantra when staying in Surfers and have previously had excellent experiences, including a past stay in a three-bedroom penthouse where both the service and accommodation were outstanding. Sadly, this visit did not meet the same standard.

Room was outdated. There was an old musky / mouldy vibe as soon as we walked in. When we first came in there were picture frames on the floor and a maintenance trolley in the kitchen. It looked as though the room was in the middle of a "make over". Showers were old and looked dirty. Overall feeling was that the hotel room was old. We didn't feel comfortable in the room at all. The bed sheets were thin and it looked as though Kmart fluffy blankets were provided in lieu of a dooner and sheet. We weren't offered anything extra as we checked into a room that wasn't complete. Overall not happy. We arrived slightly earlier, around 12pm and was advised that the room wasn't ready for us and to return at 2pm. However when we finally checked in the room wasn't even ready anyway. It seemed as though the check in person couldn't be bothered to check us in early.
