As a loyal Accor member across various brands and countries, this was my first experience staying at Mövenpick Surabaya. I used a suite upgrade from the Accor app, but there was no upgrade provided. That’s fine—no problem. Upon arrival, parking was very limited, and there was no lift access from the upper parking floors to the lobby. At the reception, there was no recognition of my membership status by the staff. When I first entered the room, it was quite good—clean with a nice view. However, there was no warm welcome card from the hotel team at all. I went to the restaurant, but the lift floor was wet and slippery. Using my dining voucher and birthday cake benefit was quite difficult because the information from the reception team (via WhatsApp) differed from what the restaurant team told me (I have screenshots if needed). After discussing it with the restaurant staff, I was finally assisted well, although they had to confirm first. The food quality was excellent—great job to the kitchen team. The welcome drink was actually interesting, offering cocktails, but the bar staff were not knowledgeable about the drinks they offered. A very disappointing experience happened during breakfast. My child was stopped from entering and asked to pay. Meanwhile, I saw another group of three adults who admitted they did not add an extra bed, yet when they left, the hotel staff said nothing. In the end, I used my own breakfast voucher. What was even more surprising was that many guests were taking food away in boxes, clearly visible to the numerous hotel staff, and it was simply allowed. WOW. A 5-star hotel with such surprising standards—charging for a child under 8 years old while allowing guests to take food out of the dining area. And it always ended with the phrase, “we apologize, each hotel has different policies.” It would be better to follow the Accor hotels abroad concept of using breakfast vouchers. The swimming pool and gym area are also very small for a 5-star hotel. In terms of facilities, it might still qualify as 5-star, but in terms of service—definitely not. It is below even a 4-star standard. I was considering this hotel as a wedding venue for my sibling, but after this stay, I am very disappointed and would not recommend it.
