Exceptional Raffles Heritage Tour

TripAdvisor rating 5.0/5

Emma T TripAdvisor review

I strongly recommend the Raffles Heritage Tour to experience the history of the iconic Raffles Hotel. Our tour guide Roslee was extremely informative and able to answer all of our questions. Roslee made for a wonderful, personalised experience of Raffles Hotel through his generosity of time, welcoming nature and historical expertise. This behind-the-scenes tour was a real highlight of our trip to Singapore!

Truly legendary.

Kevin C TripAdvisor review

Our stay at the Raffles Singapore was absolutely sublime, and now the new benchmark hotel for us, beating the Okura Tokyo. On arrival, I experienced the legendary Raffles service right away, when the doorman greeted us and took us to the check in area. He also resolved an issue with the payment for our ride, without us needing to worry about anything. This same doorman also constantly greeted us by name every time we entered and exited the hotel. The check-in process is quite unconventional for a city hotel, but works extremely well and comfortably, and we were escorted to our suite right away by the staff member. In the room, our room keys and welcome gifts were waiting for us in the parlour, with our luggage being delivered and the butler introducing the room and giving a complementary chocolate course. This seamless welcome left lasting impressions, unique to the Raffles even after staying at several resorts and luxury hotels around the globe. The room itself was large, and our upgraded palm court suite was extremely comfortable, overlooking the main palm court and just winging the main building. It carried the perfect equilibrium between serenity and convenience, being close enough to the facilities of the hotel without sacrificing privacy. The room features three main areas, being the parlour/living room, bedroom, and the bathroom. The parlour was cozy, featuring an extensive, complimentary minibar, dining facilities, TV, large couch and sitting area, and even a christmas tree which added the perfect festive touch. Separating the parlour and bedroom, was a set of double doors and blackout windows, helpful especially if more than one person was staying in the room. Next, the bedroom, being the largest space in the room, felt very spacious with shockingly high ceilings, which although being grand, seemingly felt empty with a bit of dead space. The bedroom featured a vanity and small closets flanking the television. With so much space, it left me to wonder why they couldn’t have included larger or even walk-in closets, or at least a larger luggage storage area, rather than just a small, fold up luggage stand. Finally, the bathroom was extremely grand, with double basins decked with marble counters, walls, and floors, allowing for lots of brightness, enhanced further by the natural light through the tinted windows. The shower and toilet rooms were very large and luxurious, although the toilet was not a washlet, which is excusable for a heritage hotel like this. All of the lights, curtains, televisions, and air conditioning was controlled by two (actual) iPads stationed in the bedroom and parlour, which also featured some helpful features, although the iPad placed in the parlour was quite buggy and froze frequently. Overall, the room was excellent, fitted with modern features yet still maintaining the historic charm of the hotel. Mum especially appreciated the decor and high ceilings. Service at the Raffles, as mentioned previously, was phenomenal. There was absolutely no snobbery or stuffiness, which I thought would be an issue in a hotel such as this, as I have also experienced such in other hotels of a similar calibre. The service I experienced at the Raffles can be better described as warm and approachable, being low touch but still offering everything needed. Staff were all extremely friendly and helpful, with special mentions to our butler and the doorman whom I mentioned previously, both of which I unfortunately didn’t grab the names of. The complimentary history tour was also something to mention, being insightful and enjoyable. The facilities and grounds lived up to expectations. The hotel offers plentiful dining options, opulent public spaces, and expansive, lush, resort-like grounds. Our dining experiences were pleasant, particularly in terms of service. The food at Yi, the Tiffin Room (breakfast), and the pool bar were good, but did not exceed expectations. The fitness centre, while adequately equipped, felt underwhelming for a hotel of this calibre, featuring only three Technogym multi-strength machines. The pool was on the smaller side but wonderfully relaxing, especially in Singapore’s climate. The true highlight of the facilities, however, was the grounds and public spaces. The veranda in particular, serving as the main corridor outside the rooms, was an incredibly tranquil place to sit, unwind, and soak in the surroundings. In general, our experience at the Raffles was truly legendary, surpassing our expectations even as a bucket list hotel. Every small detail here in terms of design, service, and layout was well thought through and executed flawlessly. This should definitely be a must stay for hotel and history enthusiasts alike, as there is just nothing quite like it anywhere in the world.

Narendra: The Spirit of Raffles at the Door

Narendra, the doorman at Raffles Hotel Singapore, embodies true hospitality. He is endlessly friendly, genuinely kind, and attentive in a way that feels welcoming rather than intrusive. From the very first moment, he — together with the entire Raffles team — makes you feel as if you are coming home, not just arriving at a hotel. Raffles offers a rare kind of luxury: understated, effortless, and free of any sense of staging — and Narendra represents this perfectly. His presence sets the tone for the exceptional experience that defines Raffles.
