Friday. It seems many staff members are on duty, but they are walking up and down the room with no action. Conclusion on day 2, all staff must be trainees; insecure, without initiative, no overview of cleaning tables and fill foodstands, and no manager around. Self service to get a coffee? Standing at a bar and waiting for someone to speed up to get the job done so that all in line can get a coffee. There are no Cappuccino cups available so this is served in coffee mugs (oops, someone forgot to start the dishwasher). Saturday. We sit each day at the window bench. 4 tables on this side are overloaded with dirty porcelain and around us other tables are also filled. Guest empties these tables themself and stack it onto the loaded tables next to us. Occasionally a staff member passes and picks up a few glasses or cups. The 4 tables are never cleaned while we eat during 35 minuttes. It is not pretty. This seems to be an ongoing problem, but Saturday is clearly the worst. This day it seems, there are no staff circulating the floor. A guest arrives to the table next to us, and squeezes a large suitcase- same height as the table, in between our tables. We are eating at a train station cafeteria. Sunday. No serving the Coffee is definitely now a permanent feature. Queing to get coffee, takes a minimum of 5-6 minutes and up to 10 min. Today is the 10 min coffee service while me and 2 others are waiting in line: nr 1 get's his coffee and leaves. Now shift change happens at 9am, a staff person says to other staff person loud and crystal clear: “trois cappuccino”. She makes 2! 1 was for the person who was in front of me, so I had to wait for her to make my 2nd while my 1st got cold. No staff around, food supply is running low on a few stations, and we have to wait for fill up of fruit and croissants. As on all the days, even though we are in cheese country nr 1 this hotel let guests try to cut the hard cheese with a dinner knife, and not a suitable cheese knife. Monday. There are no teaspoons offered around on any of the days, and one have to ask for this. I ask a person, who appears to be training a new staff, where I can find a teaspoon. She goes to the tea-bar to take a teaspoon out of a box with tea leaves. I say that I don’t find it hygienic to let me eat from a teaspoon where maybe 50 different persons has touched it. She gets stressed, and fetch 3 teaspoons from the kitchen area. She holds the head of the spoon so that it touches her skin. Sigh. The room is so small that I keep walking into the bed’s legs because the pass way between bed and table is too narrow. You know the drill: No shoes on, so toes get smashed “OUCHHH”! Check in was easy and I was very happy to see that I could get my room before 3pm. Happy experience! As a standard I was booked a guarantee fee of €200: “which we of course will return on the time of checking out ”. 1 day after my checking out, the money was debited my account, and upon request why there is an actual debit to my account, I was informed that this could take up to 7 days?! I was specifically asked at the checkout. "If you could use the same card for debiting extra charges". I was not informed that this would mean a long delay of reimbursing the deposit. Would I have known, I would have opted for paying extra charges on site.

What you describe concerning the breakfast service is not reflective of the standards we strive to deliver. Your feedback has been taken very seriously and MAMA says sorry 😢 Concerning the pre authrosation, it is a holding amount and it can appear on your bank account but it is not a payment. Room was great, big window which let lots of light in. Sweet messages written on mirrors made us feel special. Hotel is a great location to explore Paris easily. The staff were so friendly an attentive and the bar is great! Great for families.

Always love Mama Shelter East. I do t stay anywhere else in Paris. Am looking forward to your reinstating a snack machine for night time munchies though as it's a bit long-winded having to explain that you don't have any night time drinks or snacks options to friends when recommending staying there. 💕 BB

Everything was great. Most importantly, I appreciated the flexibility that the staff afforded us. This made all the difference. In my experience, French customer service is extremely inflexible, even with easy change requests. They fact that MS showed reasonable flexibility (as did HotelTonight, the booking service), we ended up buying an additional room and also signed up to an annual subscription to the Dis-loyal program. If your staff hadn't shown some flexibility, we would probably never come back to the hotel. So thank you very much for having good customer service. It makes all the difference.
