Unfair change to cancellation policy & unresolved charge

I had a very disappointing experience with Mama Shelter Paris East due to an unfair change to my booking’s cancellation policy. On 10/29, I booked a room for 11/22–11/30. At the time of booking, the reservation was fully refundable, as clearly stated in the confirmation. On 11/1, I briefly modified the booking to 11/23–11/30. The booking remained fully refundable. Later that same day, I changed the booking back to the original dates (11/22–11/30). During this modification, the hotel unilaterally changed the cancellation policy to a more restrictive, non-refundable policy, without any clear or prominent notice at the time of the change. I made my booking decisions in reliance on the original fully refundable cancellation terms. Changing the cancellation policy mid-booking, without clear disclosure, is not acceptable. I contacted the hotel more than 10 days before check-in to cancel. Only then was I informed of the new cancellation policy. This is particularly concerning because the hotel’s own website still indicated that bookings were cancellable up to one day before check-in. Despite this, the hotel charged me €1,085.03, and the issue remains unresolved. This experience reflects unfair and non-transparent market practices, and I would strongly caution other guests to carefully monitor any booking changes and cancellation terms.

While your initial booking and first modifications were made under flexible cancellation conditions via Booking.com, the modification completed on November 1—when the dates were reverted to November 22–30—was subject to the cancellation policy in effect at that time, which was more restrictive. You requested a date change despite the reservation being non-modifiable. Unfortunately, we were fully booked for the alternative dates proposed. As we did not receive any further response from you, the payment was processed in accordance with the applicable terms and conditions. Initially i had my doubt for the location, but apparently i just worried too much. Easy to reach from Gare du nord by bus, so many bus lines close to the hotel, which can transfer you to the close-by metro stations. super friendly staff and perfect room size for Paris. i will definitely go back!

The hotel was in an interesting area with good metro connections. Our room was very comfortable with all the facilities you would expect. The breakfasts were great - such an amazing and wide selection of fresh food and drinks served in a large, welcoming area with plenty of seating. Overall, a very good stay!
