After I left the hostel. I myself being charged 15.9 euros for no reason. They just deducted them from my bank account. Despite that I left the room in a great condition. Also, at check in I was never informed about any of the hostel rules which happens in every other hostel.

The bathrooms and rooms were clean and comfortable. The staff was very nice and welcoming, but unfortunately felt there were things that happened that made it feel like Joe&Joe Nation cared more about being a public restaurant/bar and event space than a hostel. When purchasing my own wine from a grocery store, I was shocked to learn there was no where for me to drink it. Not the common spaces, not my room, not the empty roof, and was told I can drink it in the street. When I followed that direction and drank it in the street, another worker then came out to say I can't do that either. I've stayed at many hostels and have never experienced this policy. I think it should be kept in mind that it isn't feasible for all travelers on a budget to buy drinks from a bar their entire stay and be unable to get their own from a local store to have in the room they're paying for, as that's the only private space they can do so during their stay. The only other thing is one of the evenings the hostel advertised that the "social activity" would be a DJ and soiree. As a solo traveler, this is great because it's an opportunity to meet people. I bought a drink and tried to join as there were many people there but was pulled aside by a hostel worker and told I can't join because this is a private event for local university students and that I'd have to sit on the other side of the beer pong table (on which side there was basically no one). It was disappointing to be advertised these social events thinking it is a good hostel to meet other travelers but it really felt like those staying weren't prioritized and the establishment cared about its other business endeavors more. All in all, lovely staff there and was able to meet people to hangout with using other resources so still a great experience in Paris. I never leave reviews on places and I think Joe&Joe Nation has great potential to be an amazing hostel but wanted to share my feedback in hopes it may help it become more of a true hostel with community than a restaurant/bar/event space. Ultimately I appreciate your kindness and providing me a safe place to stay. Thank you!

The short man with the ponytail at reception was very rude and his overall demeanor was odd. I tried engaging in a conversation with him while I was checking in but he just looked at me as if I'd done or said something really rude. I then found out I had a top bunk and noticed the bottom bunk was empty so I went down and asked him if I could swap it. Without even checking the system he told me it was fully booked and that there was no room for changes. I then asked him to double check the system and as soon as he touched the computer he said the same thing. It appears that he didn't even check. I'm sure a good receptionist always knows when they have room for adjustments but I don't believe this was the case as he already had a deep unliking for me. This set the tone for the stay. Nathan on the night shift was the only good thing about this hostel. Every night when I made my way back to the hostel he brightened up my evening and made me feel so welcome. He's wonderful and an asset to you. Make sure you look after him well.

I have been using Hostelworld for 10 years and I have never been "preauthorized" anything before. Turns out they chsrged me twice (only that the first charge will be refunded in one month). Inredible that without my consent they charged me. They charged for the use of lockers to guard your luggae, first time as well. And to make it even worst, the room had no heat (it is winter and it was freezing INSIDE the room) and the toilet seat was covered in dried pee.
