It was ok. There is a searchlight that kept blinking throughout the night and it was quite annoying. The room’s ceiling appeared to have mold on it. I also asked for the desk chair to be replaced multiple times, every time reception told me they would do it, but it never happened. I used the laundry services and I expected to receive my cloths back the same day, but they didn’t. When I asked reception I was given the wrong information and I had to show them the rules on the laundry request. One other thing I noticed is that most employees are kind of indifferent and apathetic. I ended up checking out before I had to (afternoon prior to my last night). I probably wouldn’t stay on this Mercure property again.

One-night stay for the Rio Open event. Really convenient location, a good size room with big window (good natural light) and good setup for work - wifi, chair and working space desk in the room. I must observe that water flow was too little on the bathroom and the presence of little fleas are not a great company for bath.

A bit better than a hostel

The place is advertised as having a pool and a spa. It doesn’t. The “spa” is actually a tiny space with a dry sauna for one person, so it has to be booked in advance, because the facilities are also shared with an Ibis hostel. Both hotels are in the same building complex. Receptionists are informal, and hardly speak any language other than Portuguese, so it’s hard to get assistance of any kind. The good thing about the place is that the beach is right across the street.

Pay for a Mercure but get horrible service

We’ve stayed in other hotels of the Mercure chain before but this was by far the worst. Poor service at front desk, rude and dismissive staff who would ask us (don’t know if it is because we are a young couple): “ibis right?” In an extremely condescending way and then their attitude would change a little when we would answer mercure. I know the building and staff were the same for ibis and mercure but the overall service was one according to an ibis expectation not a 4 star hotel like mercure and their value. They were saving up a lot, just one hand towel, just one complementary water in the beginning, bad service and horrible breakfast in which they wouldn’t replace things that were eaten. We stayed there for an hour one morning and nothing was replaced. If I knew I would get this level of service for a four star hotel I would have stayed in the other 4 star hotels in the region. Don’t intend to go back there on our other times visiting Barra/Rio de Janeiro. Sad thing is, it can’t even be blamed in the miscommunication due to language because my girlfriend is Brazilian and could communicate without issues.

Hotel busy and not enough staff

Paid for a superior room due to the hotel being busy and the room was not cleaned and the frigobar not refilled…. Called reception on the day and they said until 17hs it would be done, it wasn’t. Tried calling and no answer. Went to reception and extremely busy. Called with my cell to reach an outside line and it rang for 20 mins and no answer. It was not the maids fault, obviously there are only so many rooms in a day you can clean. A customer for 20 years and sorry your quality is not getting better. Same in Brasilia and Novotel Barra Rio
