We stayed at the Fairmont Copacabana in Rio with high expectations, but unfortunately, our experience did not live up to the luxury standard the brand is known for. While the location is excellent and the views of Copacabana are beautiful, the rooms felt quite dated and in need of renovation. For a property positioned as a luxury hotel, the condition of the accommodations was disappointing and did not match the price point. Service was also inconsistent throughout our stay. While some staff were pleasant, overall the level of attentiveness and responsiveness fell short of what we would expect from a hotel of this caliber. The amenities were adequate but not particularly memorable or elevated. Nothing stood out as exceptional, which again made it difficult to justify the “luxury” label. Overall, this property has strong potential given its location, but based on our experience, we would not choose to stay here again or recommend it to others.

Out of all the accommodations I stayed in for my Brazil trip, this was the cleanest and bug free. I was able to unpack my things onto counter tops free of dust. However for a 5 star establishment, it is lacking in comparison to others on the same level. There is no follow up from management after a less than satisfactory spa experience. While I am glad I was not charged for the spa experience, I expected someone to advise me of the outcome without me having to physically go to the front desk to follow up. As for the spa experience itself, it was one of the worst I’ve had and I travel often to many different spas around the world. Perhaps it was the masseuse that spoiled my experience but again at a 5 star level, I expected way more. My masseuse left the door slightly open while I was naked on the table. There were men talking loudly and walking about. I felt extremely uncomfortable. She also did not listen to my requests. She left one side of my body completely untouched and when reminded, she ignored me and continued on her absentminded service. Majority of the staff do not speak English and was difficult to communicate without the need to pull out a translator app. Breakfast was also confusing as the hostess never explained it was a buffet. I was only led to an outside seat by the pool (buffet was all inside and not visible from where the outdoor seating). I sat there for 10+ mins before I had to ask a friendly neighbor how she got her breakfast items. If you just want a clean spot to sleep and is close to the beach, this would do. However, if you plan to use any of the amenities that require some level of service, you’re better off going to a different hotel of the same caliber.

Following a long night of international travel, we arrived early at the hotel. While the room for our children was ready at the afternoon check-in time, our room was not ready for 1.5 hours past the designated check-in time. This was very frustrating. Staff knew we were onsite and waiting for our room. But housekeeping never got our room cleaned and ready for us. Additionally, the room was freezing. Following attempts by engineering to correct the AC unit, we finally had to have them turn the AC unit off completely to avoid freezing.

We are a family of 4 (two kids of 8 and 7). We had booked the « Family Suite », which is advertised as « 1 double bed and 2 single beds for kids ». When we arrived, we found out only 3 beds (1 double and 1 single). I went to the reception, and I was told that the 4th bed was actually a folding bed that would be installed during the turndown by housekeeping… Not really what was advertised, but let’s see. We came back to the room at 11pm, with two tired kids, to discover that the folding bed was not installed… I immediacy rang housekeeping and we had to wait 30mins for them to come and install the 4th bed. In the meantime, my kid had started to sleep on the couch… I went to the reception to complain about the situation, because I didn’t find it acceptable. I was told by an employee that our situation would be discussed with his supervisor and he would come back to me. Nothing ever happened, I have never been contacted by anyone. Not a 5-star experience.
