Great drinks and excellent service by Luana! She was knowledgeable and entertaining. A total delight. Truly wonderful experience! Enjoyed the restaurant view, great place to visit while in Rio. It overlooks the Copacabana beach and had a great view of the city.

Upon checking in, our room was upgraded which set the tone for an outstanding experience. Excellent & well-maintained amenities, including the pool, restaurant & bar. Although we didn’t make use of their beach amenities, we were informed about them. Breakfast was also a standout & was phenomenal - it become a very high benchmark for our 4 week trip in Brazil. The restaurant team were always efficient & courteous. During our 4 night stay what truly made our experience exceptional were the staff - they are a credit to the hotel. From reception to concierge to food & beverage & turndown, their execution was flawless. I also believe they had a Clef D’or concierge which was impressive. A special mention to Dhom at the bar & Rogerio at the door, who were always warm, convivial, & were excellent ambassadors for the hotel & the city. Dhom in particular always took the time to check on our stay, & despite only a brief introduction always remembered our names - Thanks Dhom! I highly recommend & would now only stay at The Fairmont whenever visiting Rio de Janeiro.

Had the best experience!!! Staff very courteous!!!!. Special thanks to Manuel, Mohammed and all the staff of the 4th floor lounge. My only remark is about the loud music on the pool bar area. Loved the shows but music was too loud. Everything else was perfect. Enjoyed myself and looking forward to return next year. Thank you for the for the warm welcome, Rozangela P.

What is the point of a hotel if you can't sleep?

I am a frequent visitor to Rio and had great hopes for the Fairmont after several other 5* properties in the city (Copacabana Palace, Grand Hyatt, Miramar, Caesar Park when it was a Sofitel hotel, etc). There is plenty to like about the hotel: excellent location, beautiful views, lovely terrace with pool, bar, and restaurant, nice (if narrow) beach, etc. However, I was really disappointed by my stay overall because of what felt like poor management and inability (or unwillingness) to resolve issues. I was booked on a rate which included a free upgrade subject to availability (in addition to being Accor Gold) but upon checking in, was allocated the room category I booked. That is fine as I just assumed there was no availability (despite the Accor website still showing rooms for sale in every category for my dates at the time I arrived) so no issue there, but I think it would have been nice to mention that no upgrade was available when I checked in (or even told me if it might become available at some point during my stay). Worse, though, on the first evening, I found that my room on the 7th floor was directly above the scene for musicians to play every evening next to the pool and bar. Now, they don't play too late (till about 22.30) but it was extremely loud, and as I was arriving from Europe (and working), I was jetlagged and really wanted to sleep early. I spoke to reception and was told that there was no other room available but I should try the next morning when it should be possible to change. I did... and was told that no other room was available but i should try the next morning when it should be possible to change... and again a third time. On the third day, another receptionist even told me that rooms were actually available but as they were on the Gold floor it would be an upsell. Now again, bearing in mind that my rate included availbility-based upgrade, whilst I can understand not getting it if the hotel is full, I thought it was a bit funny to tell me that in fact it was available but only if I paid what my rate was supposed to include. On the final attempt, I was also again told I should try the next morning (which was when I was leaving!) There were other problems too. The "hot" water in my room was lukewarm at best which was not pleasant to shower or shave, coffee capsules were not replaced on any day except when I once called to ask, and towels were not replaced one day. There is a turndown service but it arrived quite late (was around 10pm). Very minor point, but it is also the only luxury hotel in Rio (and probably in all of Brazil) I have visited not to lend visitors flip flops to go to the swimming pool or beach (they mention the fluffy slippers, but quite frankly, that doesn't sound like a great idea to go to the beach!) and also the only one I know where all movie channels etc were available in Portuguese only (from channels which offer multilingual versions available literally everywhere else in both hotels and people's homes!) When I asked, I was told that the paid movies are available in English. Food is generally good but expensive. The rooms are a decent size and have nice little balconies, but feel a bit tired and shower rooms are not particularly nice (hot water issue notwithstanding), and ALL Accor status seems to be of little interest to the hotel (it did get me a welcome drink). That said, by far my biggest problem was the room noise, not being able to sleep properly and the hotel not being able or willing to find a solution at any point during my 3 night stay. Ultimately, a hotel is first and foremost a place where you go to sleep when you are away from home, so if you cannot sleep well, it kills the point. Furthermore, to me, the whole point of luxury hotels (and of having status with hotel chains) is that they solve problems when they occur. In my view, the lack of interest or bother about a customer explaining that they can't sleep given the room they have been given (an issue I am sure I am not the first to have complained about, and indeed, the receptionist I talked to said he realised it could get very noisy) is inexcusable in my view and prevents me from giving the Fairmont I had really hoped to love a higher mark.
