Staying at Fairmont Rio de Janeiro Copacabana was a truly memorable experience — and the overall hotel service, beach club and specially the breakfast buffet was one of the highlights of our visit. From the moment we arrived, we were greeted with warmth and genuine hospitality. The spread was impressive: fresh tropical fruits, a variety of breads and pastries, cold cuts and cheeses, delicious hot dishes (Tapioca 😋), fresh juices, Mimosas and coffee — everything you could want for a luxurious start to the day.  What really made the difference, however, was the service. We want to extend our deepest thanks to Edna and Guarezma. Their kindness, attentiveness, and personal care turned a simple breakfast into a warm, welcoming moment that we looked forward to each morning. Looking forward to come back to this paradise really soon ‼️ Muito obrigado 🙏

Dear Fairmont Team, I hope you are doing well. I am writing to provide detailed feedback, as well as a formal complaint, regarding our recent stay at your property. I believe it is more constructive to share this directly with you rather than posting a public review, as we genuinely appreciate the Fairmont brand and prefer to give you the opportunity to respond. My partner and I arrived in the evening for a two-night stay that was meant to be the final highlight of our holiday. Upon arrival, we were warmly welcomed by the front desk employee on duty, who was extremely professional and did everything possible to assist us. We would also like to extend our thanks to another staff member we interacted with the following day, who was equally kind. However, despite the warm welcome, we were very surprised and deeply disappointed to discover that the room we had booked and paid for — a Deluxe King Room with Ocean View — was not what the hotel had received as our reservation. Instead, the property had us booked in a Twin City View Room, which is categorically different from what we expected. We fully understand that this issue originated from a third-party platform (Revolut Stays). Nevertheless, given the level of prestige and standards associated with the Fairmont brand, it is concerning that the hotel collaborates with service providers who fail to honor reservations correctly. This ultimately reflects poorly on the guest experience and led to a significant amount of frustration. What added to our disappointment was the fact that no gesture or form of acknowledgment was offered by the hotel regarding the situation. I have stayed many times within the Accor Group, including several Fairmont properties in Paris, Switzerland, and other destinations. You can verify this through my Accor account history. In all my previous stays, customer care has always been exemplary, and issues — when they occurred — were handled thoughtfully and proactively. Another surprising element was that, upon arrival, we were told to return the following morning because no alternative room was available. We were also very surprised that a hotel of this level does not appear to maintain an emergency or fallback room, something I have personally experienced in the past in other Fairmont hotels when an issue arose. This time, we were provided no viable alternative. The next morning, despite several requests to speak with a manager, we were informed that no manager was available to meet us and that the only potential alternative was the Presidential Suite, which clearly was not a realistic or appropriate solution. While we understand the hotel was fully booked, we still believe that a fair and reasonable compromise could have been found, but it was not. In addition to the room issue, our experience at the pool area was also disappointing. While the facilities themselves were very pleasant, the service was unexpectedly slow for a hotel of this standing. On multiple occasions, we waited nearly 40 minutes just to manage to place an order because we were unable to get the attention of a server. One of our orders arrived almost an hour later. This is not the level of service we expect from Fairmont, especially when compared to past stays in your properties. Finally, regarding the booking mishandling: Revolut Stays later confirmed that they had “resolved the issue” and secured the correct room for us. However, your team informed us you had never received any communication from them. This inconsistency raises serious concerns about why the hotel works with third-party providers who are clearly unable to ensure reliability or even proper communication. As guests, we ended up caught between two parties, without receiving the service we had booked and without any meaningful support to remedy the situation. This entire experience unfortunately impacted the last two days of what had been a wonderful holiday. What was meant to be a relaxing ocean-view stay turned into stress, confusion, and disappointment. We are reaching out to you directly because we sincerely believe in the Fairmont brand and want to give you the chance to address our feedback. We would greatly appreciate hearing from you regarding how the hotel intends to respond to this situation and what measures you plan to take to prevent this from happening to future guests. The hotel is not up to the standards of other Fairmont properties. The furnishings are dated and some things don't function well. Frankly we were disappointed in the hotel. The hotel staff are very friendly and try very hard to provide information or help. Murilo in the restaurant and Victor were standouts. The other concierge staff also were terrific.
