Having booked your hotel as we celebrated our 50 years of marriage, we had high expectations. We booked a deluxe room at £678 per night. Unfortunately our flight to Rio was cancelled and we lost one day. The Fairmont nevertheless decided that we weren't allowed a refund on the lost night and we didn't even get a sea view. The reception staff were pleasant, the hotel pretty manic. Breakfast was poor for a 5star hotel and staff poorly trained in customer service. I had to point out that the chair at breakfast was broken and dangerous. We had time for a light dinner before going to the Rio Carnival but the service was awful; most of the staff hardly understood English. We ordered 3 small sharing dishes. The first arrived in 30 minutes, the second, after we asked for the food to be delivered together arrived 10 minutes later and when we asked where the other dish was, after some scurrying around, they indicated that they didn't have that dish available so we had to order something else. When we asked for the bill, they still added a service charge. I had to complain to get it removed. At best this was a 3 star hotel and we will; not be using any other Fairmont hotel ever again.

Good location with staff that was willing to help. Had some issues with cleanliness and smell in original room we were given. The pools closed at 6pm each day which was highly inconvenient for all the guests. Overall for what we paid, the value was poor.

From the moment I arrived, I felt like I was in a commercial. People with big smiles walked up to greet me and swept me to my room. Every day was full of amazing experiences, friendly staff, delicious food and much celebration. Even as a guest of Accor, the experience was over the top. I can’t say enough great things about everyone and everything at the Fairmont Copacabana, and I look forward to returning hopefully soon.
