I received an email after booking stating that the lift was out of service. Not usually a big deal unless you have knee and hip issues. Our room was apparently upgraded, how ever it was smaller than original booking. I asked to be given room originally booked but when I the room it smelt of wet carpet, a musty mouldy smell. So I opted to stay in the “upgraded” room. No discount was given for the Down grade either. Will find an alternative hotel next visit

Having stayed in Mercure hotels in the UK, I was looking forward to our stay, but I have to admit I was disappointed. We had not been warned before our arrival that the lift was in the process of being replaced. This meant we had to use the stairs, no big issue, but they were inadequately lit. Neither the bar nor the restaurant were open on Sunday evening. And on other nights when we ate in the hotel hot food was served on cold plates. However, the hotel was well positioned to access local amenities, such as the Aquarium, and was a short walk from the Esplanade. The staff were friendly and helpful.

We booked at short notice and received a comfortable well appointed ground floor room. Our only complaint would be the very intermittent and patchy wifi,and despite helpful staff trying to get Netflix on the TV,it kept dropping out as wouldn’t connect to WiFi,so gave up. We didn’t use the restaurant,but the bar and pool area was very nice. The bathroom in our room was definitely on the small tight side,but overall our experience was very good apart from wifi
