Not sure I can put my finger on it, but the experience left us uninspired. The reception we received was nice, room disappointing, facing a shabby side of a block of flats, and the grounds were unkempt and sad. Maybe that's the look they want? No glasses in the room, only cardboard cups for the coffee machine, but worst all, the dressing gowns were grey and well worn. For the price, the room was cramped and the finish left a lot to be desired. Not one English speaking Channel on the TV, considering from google reviews there are a lot of transient Brits staying here en route to the South of France, that was a surprise. No food available between 2pm and 7pm, at least not that we could find. At breakfast, we requested that our plates that had contained a cooked breakfast be removed, the waitress removed the knives and forks that were covered with remains of scrambled eggs, and placed them on the white table cloth, and took the plates only. So all in all, for an almost £400 stay for one night early January, (which included the extra bit for our pup), we felt it was very poor value.

The stay for three days at the MGallery of Chatelaillon was really nice, despite a cloudy weather. The area is great with a long track along the sea to run or walk, a location close to la Rochelle (perfect for business or leisure). The hotel is of great quality with good service in general (reception, housekeeping, restaurant). The breakfast is amazing: big choice of qualitative and fresh food. The rooms are also great (quiet, good beds and mattress). - Receptionist are very careful and available. - The room service was very professional. - The conciergerie was really efficient (thanks for managing perfectly car charging). - The housekeeping team was very efficient and kind (always a hello Madam, hello Sir when crossing). Three negative points: 1- The receptionist we saw the most at the Spa was not fun and welcoming. We did not feel expected and welcomed. Just an example (among others): when day visitors (friends) asked for shower gel at the end of the day (because the bottle was missing), the only answer they got was "we don't have, it has to wait until tomorrow morning that housekeeping refurbish". With a price of 80€ / person for half day, I guess finding a solution to provide shower gel would have been a minimum. 2- Spa access: our daughter of 12 years old could access the outside bath or jets, despite some low occupancy at some time of the day. The rule of "forbidden below 16 years old" should be a little bit more flexible, especially when you have kids that are respectful of the place and the others. 3- Lunch at the Bistrot: no booking is possible. When we tried to eat for a lunch at 13.15 for 8 people, we have been told that no room was available. No solution was proposed to us (no time when tables could be available, no back-up solutions). This is not really what was expected from the restaurant team... We ended up going outside the hotel area to find a place to eat...

Stayed overnight en route home to the South of France. A gorgeous hotel, fabulously friendly staff and a great spa. We ate at the Gaya restaurant - it's a little pricey (and I've had equally nice food and wine elsewhere for a more reasonable price), but lovely nonetheless.

great discovery

We had a great time. The hotel is beautiful. The staff were professional and very pleasant. The pool was a pleasure. The only slight thing is that the rooms are a bit on the small side but the balcony sur la mer was lovely. We ate twice in the restaurant and I was a bit surprised that the menu was identical both nights. I’d love to go back.
