Depressing stay in Lyon

Depressing colour scheme (dark brown) in corridors and a room. Insufficient lighting in bathroom, bedroom and sitting area making the whole room dark and unpleasant. The room was not very clean and lacked protector on the mattress. Strangely, the hotel collects a deposit on the credit card exceeding over 50% the room rate. The deposit was collected in full (instead of pre-authorisation) and returned couple days after check-out. On the plus note, excellent location in Confluence neighbourhood and nice staff and reception area.

The stay was comfortable. I was sent the online check in which we filled out, only to arrive at the hotel and be told that it doesn't work and was a waste of our time (Their words not ours). The restaurant service was very slow. We ordered our welcome drinks and a Sausage (Charcuterie - speciality of the region). The sausage arrived after both our drinks were long finished. (15 minutes later) Then it took them another 5 minutes to bring us a knife to cut it. Im not saying we were unhappy, but compared to many Novotel Hotels I have stayed at around the world, this one definitely has some improvements to be made.
