We enjoyed the hotel ambience and the super friendly staff who were very helpful. But... Whilst our room was nicely furnished, it was too hot. We went to put the air conditioning on but this was not working. My partner went to wash just her hair only to find that the hand held attachment had been removed because the start-stop button had previously been broken. In other words, we had been assigned a room where it must have been known that at least two of the facilities were not functioning. I rarely complain, but this casual assumption that we would accept this is completely misguided. I have emailed Mercure about this but a week later have not had had even an acknowledgment. Next stop: Trip Advisor.

We enjoyed our stay at the Eastgate. Our room was lovely with all amenities and the breakfast was very good with lots of choice.

Room was very hot, despite radiator being turned off, bad smell of drains, loud vibrating noise in corner of room from something behind boxing in wall - I asked if I could move rooms but night staff said hotel full except for a single bed room, yet when I checked on hotel's own website I was offered choice of rooms for that night.... very hard, uncomfortable pillows Good location though and room that my friends had was much better, even though both rooms booked together and should have been similar..
