This hotel is central to all that Oxford has to offer within walking distance of the train station . Please note there is no restaurant on site for evening meals .

The staff were friendly and professional. The hotel is looking tired. Carpets in stair were worn with loose threads showing. Our room was on top floor in 300+. Very expensive for a small room in the loft. Not what I was expecting from a Mercure Hotel. We have stayed in many and this was not a great memory .

Our stay at Mercure Oxford Eastgate Hotel was mainly about convenience, and in that regard the hotel delivered well. As the name suggests, the hotel sits on the east side of University of Oxford, making it very easy to access the city centre and explore Oxford on foot. For guests travelling by car, the on-site garage is also a big advantage and makes arrival much easier compared with many city-centre hotels. While some areas of the stay could be improved, the team was clearly trying their best and we appreciated their efforts and friendly attitude throughout our visit.

I had a pleasant two night stay at the hotel. As I normally do not take breakfast, I cannot comment on the quality of breakfast, although it was included in the price. I have two suggestions based on my stay - (1) Please provide a toilet brush in the bathroom so we are not forced/obligated to leave traces for the cleaning ladies. (2) kindly check if the automatic door closer can be adjusted such that it does not make a loud bang, it was a bit disturbing with the many people coming in and going out.
