We use Ibis Budget hotels on our frequent trips from Belgium to Spain, mostly to our satisfaction. This time we chose the one in Narbonne Est instead of Narbonne Sud (because breakfast there was not so good). We had a room on the renovated third floor, so it looked very new (well-done bathroom with walk-in shower). However, the new airco system was on and made a disagreeable noise. There was no way to turn it off (the Siemens control panel had no effect whatsoever on the airco). We tried to sleep, but couldn't. So, we called reception (fortunately, 24/24, so that is a good thing!!), who were "surprised". They tried another room on the same floor, but there too, the airco made the same noise and it was impossible to turn it off... Finally, we got a room on the first floor, where the rooms were not renovated yet, and the (previous type of) airco did not make any noise (but frankly, even there, the control panel had no effect on the airco in the room). Not sure if this was a temporary issue, but it was no fun to have to move rooms and reinstall ourselves late at night. Not our best night's sleep... Breakfast was great though, and service in general certainly too. We would like to make this our hotel of choice for the future, but we're afraid the problem of the noisy airco that you cannot turn off will always be there (and on all (renovated) floors!). Next time, if we make a reservation again, we will need an absolute guarantee that aircos can be turned off at night!
