Dear ibis Customer Service Team, Accor ID: 30…07SI I am writing to formally raise a complaint regarding the disappointing service and overall experience during my stay at ibis Styles Ambassador Seoul Gangnam from 18 to 25 March (Room 1502). On the evening of 22 March, I attempted to use the hotel’s self-service laundry facilities. Due to language barriers, I sought assistance from a staff member but was not informed that detergent was required, resulting in a full wash cycle without detergent. This caused unnecessary inconvenience and wasted time. When I attempted to run the wash again, the machine repeatedly rejected my card. Staff attributed this to a “bank issue” without proper investigation. I then spent over 30 minutes calling my UK bank internationally, only to confirm that my card was functioning normally. At that point, I was left in a highly distressing situation: all of my clothes had been soaked in the machine, I was wearing only a bathrobe, it was already 22:20, with temperatures at 6°C outside, and I had an early business commitment the next morning. I politely requested assistance from the duty manager, Mr. Jay Hong, asking whether cash could be accepted and the payment processed on my behalf. This was a reasonable request under the circumstances. However, this request was refused. Instead, I was advised to leave the hotel in a bathrobe and find an external laundromat. I found this response entirely lacking in empathy and professionalism, and not reflective of the level of service expected from an international hotel brand. After further unsuccessful attempts with a second bank card, I ultimately sought help from a nearby convenience store (CU), where a staff member kindly assisted me within minutes—resolving an issue that hotel staff had been unable or unwilling to address for over an hour. As a result of this prolonged situation, I did not finish washing and drying my clothes until 00:40 past midnight, which significantly disrupted my rest before an early business commitment the following morning. In addition, throughout my stay, there was a persistent loud noise from the water pipes in the room, which significantly disrupted my rest and impacted my overall comfort. This experience reflects multiple service failures, including: Inadequate staff guidance leading to avoidable issues Failure to investigate or resolve a likely equipment problem Lack of support and flexibility from the duty manager in a difficult situation Missed opportunity for basic service recovery Room maintenance issues affecting guest comfort As a frequent international traveller, I chose ibis expecting a consistent standard of reliability and customer care. Unfortunately, this experience fell significantly short of those expectations. Given the inconvenience, distress, and disruption caused, I would appreciate it if you could review this case and offer an appropriate gesture of goodwill, whether in the form of a partial refund, loyalty points, or other compensation. I would also appreciate a response outlining how these issues will be addressed to prevent similar experiences for future guests. Thank you for your attention, and I look forward to your reply. We spent a week on the 15th floor. Generally quiet. Room service did an outstanding job every day. Room was a little tight, but fully functional. Bed was comfortable.
