As a guest, it was genuinely disappointing to find that both the room cleanliness and front desk service did not align with what one would expect from a hotel carrying a five-star, global reputation. From the moment of check in, the experience felt unnecessarily confusing. Explanations of hotel services were rushed and skimmed over, making it difficult to fully understand what was available. While I understand that English may be a second language for some staff, the level of communication unfortunately fell short of international hospitality standards. What made this experience particularly disheartening was the lack of coordination surrounding our arrival. A full week in advance, I had clearly communicated that our family of four, including two young children, would be arriving on a long-haul flight with a 5:00 a.m. arrival and requested early check-in so we could freshen up before scheduled appointments. The concierge responded to my emails, and we went back and forth several times, which gave me confidence that our needs were understood and noted. However, it remains unclear why the concierge was managing booking and arrival logistics rather than the front desk. Upon arriving in Korea, I had the reasonable expectation that we would be looked after, having taken every necessary step to communicate our situation in advance. Instead, we were met with excuse after excuse as to why no room was available. This strongly suggested a significant disconnect in communication within the hotel’s management and operations chain. The Family Suite itself felt dated and poorly maintained. The bathroom was particularly concerning, with visible mold on the shower heads. The shower head leaked extensively, causing water to overflow into the surrounding area, which further reflected a lack of attention to basic maintenance and cleanliness. We stayed long enough to reasonably expect a more accommodating level of service than what we ultimately received. For a property that positions itself as “world class,” this experience was not just underwhelming it was genuinely sad. We are extremely disappointed and will be returning to Oakwood in the future. We will also be making our experience known within our community.

First of all, I would like to sincere apologize for your disappointed experiences that you have encountered during your recent stay. We fully understand how important the arrival experience is, especially as a first impression, so that we are truly sorry that we fell short of providing you with a satisfying experience in this regard. We have carefully read all the emails exchanged between you and our hotel, and have reviewed your arrival experience. Also we figured about your early check-in request from the very first communication however, we did not provide a clearer explanation regarding early check-in procedure. In result, due to our lack of explanation, we did not meet your expectation from the arrival stages. Plus, we were quite shocked to read about your comment regarding the cleanliness of the bathroom during your stay. Cleanliness is something we always prioritize and consider as the very foundation of our service, so we are truly sorry that you experienced inconvenience in this regard. This must have caused you discomfort throughout your six-night stay, which makes the situation all the more regrettable. If we were aware earlier, we would have immediately addressed the issue to ensure the remainder of your stay was more comfortable, but it seems we did not in this time. Please rest assured that we are sharing this case internally and will make every effort to ensure such issues are closely monitored, even during guests’ stays, to prevent similar experiences in the future. From your comments, we understand that, perhaps you visit Korea frequently and that you primarily stayed at Oakwood. If we may hold a small hope, we would be grateful if you would still consider staying with our hotel on your next visit. While we understand that this recent stay did not meet your expectations, I personally would like to communicate with you directly and assist in preparing for a smoother and more enjoyable experience if we can welcome you at our hotel once again.
