This hotel makes Haussmann’s vision of what urban living should be come alive for those of us not fortunate enough to be both French and wealthy. Located on Presque Isle just off the Rue de la Republique pedestrian zone (near the Place de la Republique, the Rhône riverfront, the metro, and a pleasant stroll away from the Musee des Beaux Arts, Parc Tête D’Or, Place Bellecour, the Hotel de Ville, and—of course, since it’s in Lyon—so many fabulous restaurants), the Carlton Hotel is French down to the wallpaper. The standard room isn’t spacious, but it is well organized enough for two tall people with large suitcases on a month-long trip to spread out comfortably. And the staff are wonderful. Not only are they genuinely helpful; they are thoughtful and generous and unfailingly friendly.

We stayed in Lyon for 4 nights and were very happy with everything. The registration staff were always available to answer any questions in a helpful and friendly manner. The morning breakfast was excellent t with lots of options and attentive staff as well. Overall I would highly recommend this property if your travels take you to Lyon!

Air conditioning did not work for the first 2 days of my 3 day stay. The room was incredibly warm, sweating in bed and difficult to sleep. On the 3rd day I requested the bedsheets to be changed, but the housekeeper neglected to change them.
