I have stayed several times at the hotel and this last stay was the least pleasant one, for the following reasons. 1. The hotel is becoming horrendously expensive and is taking advantage that some others are being refurbished. 2. As far as I remember, I have never received an upgrade, despite my fidelity and my diamond status. 3. Diamond status is never taken into account, whether for early check-in or late check-out. Late checkout cannot be asked in advance, you are told rudely at the reception that you have to ask on the very same day of your departure, which makes it impossible to plan ahead. 4. The room windows don’t close properly (had to ask maintenance to intervene for the second time in a row) and rooms are cleaned at 5.30 pm… 5. The environment is very noisy. If you have a room not facing the sea, you will be woken up at 4am by people shouting in the streets. 6. Major works at the restaurant (which is a great feature of the hotel), you are not warned in advance. 7. When you send a formal complaint by email to the reception manager and offer to have a chat, you don’t even get a reply… Some of the staff are going the extra mile for you but the experience is overshadowed by poor management and the rudeness of some badly trained employees. Not in line with price and Fairmont standards. Can’t wait for the Sofitel to open again…

Murilo, our waiter for breakfast and the staff at entrance was wonderful. Leonardo at the beach kept us hydrated. We had a group of ~40 rooms and did not hear a complaint from anyone. The location was great too.

My wife and I recently stayed at the Fairmont Rio de Janeiro Copacabana as part of a group of 10 couples, and the experience exceeded our expectations. The hotel is in an incredible location right on Copacabana Beach, with breathtaking ocean views and easy access to some of Rio's best attractions. The rooms were clean, comfortable, and well-maintained, and many of us enjoyed spectacular views of the beach and coastline. What truly stood out was the staff. From check-in to departure, every team member was welcoming, attentive, and genuinely focused on making our stay memorable. Managing a group as large as ours is no small task, but the Fairmont team handled everything professionally and with a smile. The breakfast was excellent, offering a wide variety of fresh options, and the rooftop pool and bar quickly became our favorite gathering spot. Watching the sunset over Copacabana while enjoying drinks with friends was a highlight of the trip. We also appreciated how the hotel balanced luxury with a relaxed and inviting atmosphere. Whether we were exploring Rio, relaxing by the pool, or enjoying the hotel's restaurants, everything felt first-class. We made incredible memories during our stay and would highly recommend the Fairmont Rio de Janeiro Copacabana to anyone visiting Rio. We look forward to returning in the future.

The check in was tepid. I didn't get upgrade despite booking 2 rooms for 4 nights thru amex platinum. I return to Rio every year. I was born and raised in Rio. I don't think I will return to Fairmont. The room is just ok. I had to ask to make sure the rooms were cleaned to my standard (for a 5 star hotel). The best part is Pereira's staff at the restaurant and the entrance folks - real professionals who used to work at Cesar Park.
