Genuinely have stayed in better Ibis Budgets in both France and beyond. The hotel should have been refurbished 10 years ago, but the main point would be how it justifies a 4* rating when it has absolutely zero services for guests other than a breakfast area which closes at 10. The "hotel" is essentially a Bed & Breakfast. There are absolutely no public areas (bar, restaurant, lounge, seating) whatsoever. The quality of the room was terrible. The nosiest "AC" which didn't cool the room, ancient thin towels and a TV with no services. The bathroom was like something from an aeroplane or training. I relayed this to the lady on reception when we were checking out and her response was essentially to say we should have booked the other Mercure 5 minutes away. So maybe consider that before booking. We had another Mercure booked in Nice the next evening which I genuinely considered cancelling based on the Avignon experience, but this one was as expected - so it really is just a specific issue with this hotel.
