Good location but this hotel didn’t offer me anything during the stay when I had my birthday. Not even a happy birthday note. The welcome drink only limits to small bottle of drinks...I didn’t feel welcomed here.

1. Payed a high price for a low occupation time. 2. Was told to pay for the public parking garage attached to the hotel which turned out to be a private one that they control. They ask 24 euro p/d and keep you waiting at the gates for minutes to open (in&out). 3. We were provided with Fancy looking wooden keycards that have a weak signal and therefore will open your door and turn on the elevator with lag. 4. The room was warm and when trying to put on the air-conditioning it didn't blow cold air because of the winter settings. Outside temp. was 13 degrees Celsius and the loud noice and great smell of Köln will keep you from having you from having your window open at all time. 5. Specifically asked for a room with a bath and got it. The water tap of the bath wasn't working so I had to use the shower for filling the bath. When addressing this issue the employee at the reception told me that he finds what I said very strange and wanted to take a look for himself but didn't. As a compromise he offered me to have a free drink and told me to leave a remark for the assistant manager. 1. I get that visiting the hotel a a special time (new year's eve weekend) will cost me a bit more than any other day. I do think that the room was overpriced for that time and due to low occupation think it was unnecessary (and bad strategy). 2. Beside being informed by one of your employees that the parking garage is private, it is also clear to see. (Sign above the entrance, no paying machine and all doors inside allow direct acces into the hotel). Paying for parking is normal but asking a high price for your private garage is not hospitality. I again think with low occupation you don't have to ask that high amount making it slightly more attractive to visit your hotel. 3. The lag on the cards is a very small detail but sometimes an annoying one. 4. Winter/summer etc. settings should be considered outdated as we all experience the global temperature changes. In addition, why not give your customers full control over their room temperature regulation? 5. This one bothered me the most. Shouldn't I have been offered a different room or a decent compromise? When talking to the assistant manager I was informed that there was no remark left by her colleague and that she was very sorry about my experience but that there is nothing she could do about it, also in terms of a possible compromise. While walking away, she noticed that I hadn't payed for the parking yet and then she told me that she will not charge that. Although it sounds as a nice gesture, she only offered that because it wasn't already payed. If it was (just like the room) there probably was 'nothing that she could/want to do' about it. I do like to end with positive note: 1. The room was very nice, clean and complete. One of the best looking rooms I have seen in a while (especially in Köln). 2. The majority of the staff is friendly and have a good understanding of customer service/experience. 3. The location of the hotel is perfect. 4. The small shop inside the hotel comes in handy and their prices are okay.

Hotel was very well-appointed, located just behind Kolner Dom and few steps away from Cologne Main Station. Aside from the very clean room, which had an elegant view of the Kolner Dom, it was the very friendly and personal service of Tappinsam which made my stay very pleasant - he gave very good recommendations and strikes very good conversation.

Unfriendly and incompetent management

The hotel is much more generic than it seemed in pictures and my room was so tiny, it was borderline claustrophobic. There’s a window from the bedroom that showcases the bathroom with a frontal view of the toilet, which is a terribly misguided design choice. Despite being aware of the issue, the hotel hasn’t managed to install a frosted foil in every room and according to a comment here, they started that task well over a year ago. And that doesn’t surprise me. It all feels a bit careless at the Mondial. Upon checking in at the mostly empty hotel shortly after 12:00pm a couple of days before Christmas, I was told check-in is at 3pm. I asked if there was possibly a room that was ready, since I was very tired after my journey. I then was told they would let me occupy my room as a courtesy at 1:30pm. When I asked again if there really wasn’t a possibility to check in immediately, a manager was consulted and pretended that I was asking for something impossible and that if there wasn’t a room available it is 3pm and that’s it. Delivered with a tone and attitude that should never be encountered in a supposedly 4 star property. Any hotel, really. It was outright rude. I repeated that I was merely asking if there really wasn’t a single room that was ready and didn’t expect to check-in early if there wasn’t one available, but didn’t understand why I should sit on a chair in the lobby for an hour and a half during a pandemic, if my room was ready now. The manager left for the back office in a huff and the poor front desk agent had to apologetically check me in and handed me my key. It was an unnecessary attempt of sticking to an arbitrary rule when there was no need to do so and in a situation that could have been a wonderful opportunity to provide customer service befitting a fine hotel. Since my reservation was refundable until 6pm that day, I would indeed have left and gone elsewhere. I didn’t have to resort to that, but I will certainly never return again.

the location is perfect, as I was invited to a concert at the Philharmonie and the room 153 was very quiet.

On arrival I was met at reception by a person who seemed to be in a rather bad mood. On the next day, however, the desk was manned by two most friendly and helpful young people, so that I left the hotel with a more favourable feeling.

My family stayed at Mondial on a visit to the Köln Christmas Markets. The hotel is clean, staff is friendly, rooms are well appointed, the location couldn’t be beat. There is parking, but I didn’t realize that so we parked across the street in probably the roomiest parking garage in all of Europe! Be aware that the bathroom has windows into the room. The shower is enclosed with glass at upper half so visible from the room. Not something Americans are accustomed to, but it wasn’t a problem. We will return next year and will choose Mondial again. Thanks for a great stay!

Well located though not obvious which way to go from train station. Had to cancel original booking in December 2020 due to covid lockdowns, disappointing that a refund wasn't offered in the circumstances so had to rebook for December 2021. Even more disappointing that prices were increased significantly and had to pay the difference. Nice stay but worked out very expensive (especially when prices were then coming down as the stay was approaching), won't be rushing to book with Accor again in a hurry given how I felt taken advantage of.
