For the cathedral and the station it was excellent. Breakfast was ok and the staff were generally very helpful. Although central a very quiet atmosphere. Comfortable bed and easy to use shower. For my birthday we received a delicious chocolate cake and chilled sparkling wine both complimentary. Danke sehn. Useful shop, Legs Eleven, for purchasing gifts and snacks. A window that physically opens is always a bonus when it is quiet outdoors. However, for a couple staying a few days the room was impractical. Very small with limited storage space, so virtually everything cluttered the room, which we upgraded to business at a small cost, but no larger than standard. The only difference was a nespresso coffee machine and a small writing table by the window. No bathrobes were supplied although listed in room facilities. As a loyalty card member free drink and meal discounts were given, but no mention at the time that the restaurant was closing for two of the three nights; although a stopgap arrangement was in place in a ground floor business facility. Over 800 euros was steep for three nights b&b given the room experience. However, as my first visit to Germany on a city break the whole Cologne experience was stunning. My wife and I loved everything about the city, local culture, German people and the whole quality of life, and in spite of the negatives it made for an unforgettable break.
