Amazing location, perfect to discover Marseille for the first time! Staff was nice and very helpful… they gave us great advice about where to visit during our trip. Food was amazing, as usual in France :) We also really appreciated the ecological commitment of Novotel (regarding water consumption reduction in the shower). Overall, would definitely recommend!!

The photos of the pool area and access to a spa in this hotel were some of the main reasons we booked this hotel. We booked via the All website and paid in advance. We had previously stayed in a different Allcor property in Marseille and found it to be good value, reasonable location and friendly helpful staff The room allocated to us at 3pm on a Tuesday in September at Novotel Vieux-Port Port, was not the room we had booked and this was changed by a supervisor when we returned to reception and asked for the room we had booked. There was no information offered about the facilities in the hotel upon arrival or check-in and everything had to be asked about as we discovered it. There was a beautiful bar area, adjacent to the pool area. The bar in this area was closed and there was no waiter service to this area while we stayed here. There was also a lounge area inside the doors from this pool bar area and while the receptionist said there was table service in this area, we found this not to be the case while we stayed here. You could get a drink or coffee at the bar and bring it back to the seating areas yourself if desired. Ordering a drink at the bar was not always a pleasant interaction with staff and made availing of this lovely out door space an effort, as it frequently felt like you were inconveniencing the staff by ordering a drink or coffee and for context, we had a no more than 2 drinks on any day in this area. We were told on Thursday that there was no snack menu or food options between lunch ending at 2.30/3pm and dinner starting at 7pm, which was served in the restaurant area. However, we saw a customer being served a snack menu on Friday at the pool bar area and when I asked if they were serving food, he explained that they had a chef available today but they are not available everyday because of how the breaks work. We ate in the restaurant one evening and found they served the lunch menu for dinner also. We order what turned out to be a cured ham and cheese sandwich as a starter with an undressed salad garnish. I ordered the seabass and prawn main course, which turned out to be a large bowl of cold hummus, with some beans, a small piece of warm seabass and a prawn in the shell on top. My companion ordered barbeque beef rib with chips, and while that was what he got it was a 1 star dish. We saw a pasta dish at the next table and this looked considerably better than what we ordered, so maybe wise to stick to the pasta options in this restaurant! I should say that Marseille has amazing restaurants with an enormous variety of food type options, and if you are a bit of a foodie, Marseille will not disappoint. Novotel Vieux Port’s restaurant is not a good barometer of what is available in Marseille. This feels like a corporate hotel. This might explain the lack of service in the outside bar area (which is a beautiful setting) and offerings outside formal lunch and dinner times. The pool area was small but very nice with good sun throughout the day till about 5pm this time of year, and the pool felt warm and the hotel provides towels to use, which we always appreciate. The pool was not always available for use as there were children’s swim clubs/classes, which were very noisy, being run at this pool, for hours a a time each day, making sun bathing in pool area or using the pool uncomfortable. There was no notice of this available or provided by reception upon booking or check-in, so that you could schedule your own pool time around this, marring one of the main attractions of this hotel. Overall we loved Marseille and found almost everyone we interacted with on our trip to be helpful, kind and friendly. It is our second visit to Marseille and we hope to return to the city again. However, we would struggle to return to Novotel Vieux Port, as we did not find it to be reflective of the friendliness or good value that is to be found in Marseille in general.

The location is about the only good thing. The rooms are very tired. The carpets are stained, the bathrooms scratched, paint peeling and tile grouting dirty. The room is very basic but it has a coffee machine (which is appreciated). The pool area is pleasant enough but everything in this hotel is old and needs refurbishing. Go somewhere else, eg Intercontinental or Les Bords.

The location was great, a short walk to the port with lots of bars and restaurants. Nice views of the port from the hotel restaurant. Breakfast was good with a lot of choice, although felt very rushed to eat as they were setting up for lunch at 09:30am. Unfortunately the rooms need a good refurb and clean as were very dated and shower grout mouldy. The menu at the restaurant was very limited, no lunchtime options. We purposely chose a hotel with a swimming pool, but 3 out of the 4 days we could not use it between 10 and 3 due to children having swimming lessons which we were not made aware of.
