Disappointed with the condition of the room, the shower drain was blocked and drained slowly, the door lock didn’t work properly as the door jam was broken and had been poorly repaired. Reported to reception, told to wait in the room for maintenance, waited for over an hour, reported again to reception. On a positive, the staff were friendly, and the hotel is well located. They stored our suitcases while we off cycling for a month which we really appreciated.

Hotel is very well located in center of Paris with lot of shops and restaurants within steps. Unfortunately the bedroom has issues that needs renovations: air conditioning air flow can’t be changed or broken button, bathroom fixatures quite loose and easy to fall, shampoo and hand wash not being filled despite running out. In addition, breakfast has very limited options/ can improve with a few more items like fried eggs and yogurts and with one or two asian breakfast items.

To start, please let me say that this has been my favourite Paris hotel for many years: it's unique, relaxed and informal - all aspects I love - plus it's located in a perpetually busy area with lots and lots of restaurants and transport links very close by. However it has residual issues which are challenging my loyalty, some of which I have written about before but which seem unchanged. Unbelievably, given the current spell of boiling-hot weather, my room was cold during the evenings of the first 2 days of my stay last week. The thermostat on the wall was not functioning and I could only get cold air out of the vent. I complained to reception on the first morning that the chauffage wasn't working, only to be told that it could not be fixed and I would have to be satisfied with a portable electric heater which would be delivered sometime during the day. I was completely appalled that a Mercure hotel did not have the facility to provide heating. How can this be? It challenges the very definition of a hotel. And what of the proposed solution of a portable heater? Did one arrive as promised? No, of course it didn't. I despair. I have previously complained about the heating in this hotel: I am shocked that there are still - seemingly - major problems. During my Winter stays in Paris from here on, I am now going to book alternative hotels unless getting confirmation of a complete overhaul of the heating system. The other issue I have is the hotel's seemingly half-hearted approach to sustainability .. specifically the recycling facilities provided for glass, plastic, paper, etc. Yes, there's a good receptacle - of a good size with the separate compartments well labelled - provided on the ground floor close to reception, but this is not the case on the 5th floor (and maybe other floors too). Yes, a receptacle for communal use is provided ... but the compartments are not labelled. If the compartments are not labelled, then people will just use the receptacles as poubelles. PLEASE label to compartments.

The whole experience was nice and satisfying... The drawbacks were: the breakfast was rather poor and repetitive and although I stayed at fifth floor, there was noise from the street.
