This is not a 4 star hotel. The rooms were ok and the location is great. On our arrival we were told at check-in that the restaurant was not open as it was Jan 1. I did see a large group of people dining there however. We were told that there was no room service either but that there we plenty of options outside. We were tired from travelling and that was disappointing, You should advise guests of this in advance. The reception was polite yet not helpful and made no mention of the welcome drink. I then had to pay 18 euros for 2 beers at the bar that were 4 euros nearby in a shop. We were also told that the restaurant would we open on 2 January. On 2 January we went to the restaurant and were totally ignored by staff who were laughing and joking in a room behind reception. I had seen one of those staff members taking a food order from someone else so I asked him if the restaurant was open and he said no. I told him that we had been told that it would be open that day and he just said no it wasn’t not and explained nothing. 2 January is an ordinary work day. The staff at the restaurant seem to think they can open when they feel like it. The staff member I spoke had seen me waiting before and had ignored me and walked away. I am considering not renewing my membership of the paid Accor scheme, I just don’t see the point. I will try to avoid Mercure from now on which is sad because the Mercure in Langkawi Malaysia had been great. There is no consistency and in the case of Montparnase, no management evident.

Spacious rooms, clean and tidy. Bed was very comfortable with two types of pillows provided. Shower can be a bit small but the sink counter space was big enough for two person’s toiletries. Only small gripe is that the nearest metro stations are not the popular ones so you would always need to change somewhere.

We were coming with two small children late in the evening, so I requested for the sofa bed to be prepared for sleep with sheets in advance, the night before and then during the day. When we checked in, I asked again and reception told me it’s ready. When we got to the room, the sofa made wasn’t ready. I had to call the reception twice and waited for an hour to get this done.

Pillow are not comfortable at all, Requested a third one to the reception and it’s like I’ve requested something impossible they literally said they can’t Reception is poorly managed, just saying hello is like a favour Very disappointed by the hospitality as we can’t say service as it’s inexistent. Location is good tough.
