The hotel is perfectly located with an exceptional breakfast and good sound-proofing, however I did not feel rested cause of the very old, curvy and creaky bed with the square pillows.

I stayed have stayed at the Mercure in Charbonnieres many times over the years and continue coming back for the clean rooms and good food. This time, I checked into my Superior room on Sunday and out on Monday for a quick two-day trip to Madrid. Upon my return Monday night, I was checked into a Standard room even though a Superior room had been reserved. Thursday morning I noted the change with the receptionist and was told that no Superior room was available, and while they could not deliver either a room safe or Nespresso machine (both benefits of the Superior room), they would have drinks put in my refrigerator (another benefit in the upgraded rooms). This was indeed done, but as it was a Standard room, there was no bottle opener for either the water or the Coke. I mentioned this during checkout on Friday and was simply told that "booking a Superior room does not guarantee a Superior room" and that they "would note in my account for future reference that I prefer a Superior room." This seems a bit odd as my booking a Superior room definitively indicates my preference for a Superior room. Regardless, I'll probably stay there during my next trip given their history of better service, but my loyalty to this facility has been somewhat reduced from this experience.
