A Creche, not a spa.

Emily B TripAdvisor review

On their website, the Fairmont Hotel is depicted as an "elegant", "tranquil" "serene escape" in the mountains. We chose this hotel as your online marketing gave us the impression that the resort would be the perfect base; we envisioned returning to the hotel after a long day of hiking to relax in the spa, enjoying some delicious Italian cuisine and a few drinks. Unfortunately, during our stay, we experienced none of the refined sophistication that is advertised on your platforms. I will begin with the positive elements of our stay and preface by saying that your staff are fantastic. I feel that the hotel is chronically understaffed but despite this, all of your staff do their very best. The concierge service at check in was excellent and we received particularly good service and coffee from the male barrista in the cafe every morning. The beds were also comfortable. The fixed showers are so poorly designed that the floors instantly became submerged in water every time we switched it on. We had to mop up the water with our own bath towels in order to stop our feet becoming drenched. My used coffee cup was not replaced by housekeeping, despite the room being made up. In a 4 star establishment, I certainly don't expect to return to the hotel in the evening to find my used coffee cup from breakfast still in the same spot. The standard of cleanliness throughout the hotel also fell well below expectations. There seemed to be crumbs on the carpet all over the hotel and tables were sticky. Please see the pictures attached for some of the delights that were left littered around the hotel. There was a chip from somebody's room service left on the carpet in the corridor in the evening. This was still there at 11am the next morning. It was a great irony that there was an empty espresso martini glass left on top of the hydration station. On the topic of hydration, it felt that one of the only places where there was any respite from the excessive noise was the gym. I brought my empty water bottle, only to find a sign directing gym users to walk to the ice rink in order to fill up their water bottles. There was also a sign instructing gym users to wipe down equipment after use. As no antibacterial spray or wipes were present during both of my visits to the gym, I can only assume that nobody ever cleans the equipment. None of this is acceptable in a 4 star spa hotel with "state of the art facilities". For reasons unknown, many parents here seem to let their children run amok and forgo the notion of using "inside voices". We visited in the school holidays and expected that families would be present. It is unreasonable to expect children to be seen and not heard, but the behaviour we have witnessed during our short stay that was enabled by parents was nothing short of horrifying. There were children running wild around the restaurant and cafe every time we sat down to eat, children running around the lobby, children with wet feet walking swimming pool water into the corridors, screaming outside of our room early in the morning and we even witnessed a child using a scooter/tricycle in the cafe. We were also utterly aghast to see that children are permitted in the "spa". This was the first time that either of us have ever encountered a spa that allows children to enter and use the facilities. This is not conducive to the relaxing experience that the hotel puports to offer. We were so disappointed; we considered using the sauna, but thought better of it as we could hear screaming from the end of the corridor. It is incredibly misleading to advertise your swimming facilities as a spa, this needs to be changed to "kid's splash pool". The hotel is advertised as a spa hotel and golf resort, but also advertised as a "family adventure". The owners need to establish a clear target audience and stick to it. They have failed to recognise that the spa-seekers are unlikely to want to use the facilities they have paid for if it is full of families with children. It is evident that the enjoyment of families with children takes precedence over the enjoyment of couples seeking a relaxing stay, so why not market the hotel solely as a family friendly resort so nobody feels hoodwinked when they turn up?

Only disappointment was the courtyard was filthy and had to ask to have that cleaned. Apart from that this place is incredible and we would definitely come back again

We sincerely apologize for the state of the courtyard and appreciate your patience in bringing it to our attention. Kind regards, Guest Relations Team Fairmont Resort Blue Mountains

The stay was fine. The check in process was terrible. We were due to check in at 3pm. We didn't get checked in until 430. Room wasn't ready.

The hotel is in need of a refurb. The bars and restaurants seem ok but the rooms are pretty tired looking - peeling furniture, dirty carpet and walls, old bathrooms etc. Have stayed here over many years and it hasn't changed which is the problem. It started out great but is looking tired. Did enjoy the whiskey bar very much however.

Dear Sylvia, Thank you for taking the time to share such detailed feedback following your recent family stay with us. We truly appreciate your loyalty over the years, and it means a great deal that you continue to return to the resort. While it’s wonderful to hear that you enjoyed our bars and restaurants, especially the whiskey bar, and that our team provided a warm welcome throughout your stay, I’m sorry that your room did not meet expectations on this occasion. Your comments regarding tired furnishings, carpet condition, and the overall dated feel of the accommodation have been shared with our leadership, housekeeping, and maintenance teams. We recognise the importance of keeping our guest rooms fresh and comfortable, and feedback like yours plays a vital role in guiding our improvement priorities. We’re grateful you highlighted both the positives and the areas where we fell short. Your honesty helps us continue to evolve and deliver the experience our long‑standing guests deserve. We hope to have the opportunity to welcome you back again in the future for a more polished and uplifting stay. Warm regards, Guest Relations Team Fairmont Resort Blue Mountains
