Visiting Kew Gardens is easily one of the best things to do in Hounslow – it's also one of London's top attractions! Kew is an internationally significant botanical research and educational institution. The Royal Botanic Gardens boast 500 acres of woodland, landscaped gardens and beautiful, historic glasshouses. There are over 50,000 living plants at this UNESCO World Heritage site – that's plenty to see when you visit at any time of the year.

Kew is home to some of the world's most beautiful glasshouses, including the star of the show, the famous Victorian Temperate House. It's the largest of its kind globally, home to 1,500 plant species from Africa, Australia, America, Asia, the Pacific Islands and New Zealand. The Temperate House keeps plants at temperatures above 10˚C. The Palm House is another unmissable glasshouse at KEW, an indoor rainforest with humid air maintained at a minimum of 18˚C. This glasshouse is home to many rare and extinct plants, so keep your eyes peeled – you never know what you might discover!

As well as the famous glasshouses, Kew is home to various picturesque landscaped gardens. These include the Japanese and Rock gardens, Agius Evolution Garden, Children's Garden and Grass Garden. The stunning Rose Garden is home to unique breeds you won't see anywhere else. If you prefer to stretch your legs walking a greater distance, explore the arboretum at Kew Gardens. The area is home to over 14,000 trees, covering over two-thirds of the entire space; the oldest dates back to the 18th century. Look out for giant coastal Redwoods, towering at 40 meters, and a chestnut-leaved oak that's an impressive 30 meters wide.

Osterley Park and House is a beautiful Georgian country estate in Hounslow, dating back to the 16th century. The National Trust estate is home to several Grade I and Grade II-listed buildings, including a spectacular mansion surrounded by gardens and land – a perfect place for a day out in Hounslow. The house is open to visitors throughout the year, so you can step back in time, exploring the grand entrance hall, various suites and the servants' quarters. Whether it's raining or shining on your day at Osterley Park, don't miss your chance to visit the beautiful gardens. The land has been restored to its 18th-century glory, with perfect lawns, hedges, floral displays and the Garden House all waiting to be discovered.

Hounslow offers easy access to two Royal Parks: Richmond and Bushy. In addition, Hounslow Heath is a beautiful nature reserve with walking trails, ideal for short or longer walks year-round.

Richmond Park boasts a history stretching back to the 17th century. It's in Richmond upon Thames, right next to Hounslow, nationally crucial for wildlife conservation in the UK. It's also Grade I-listed on England's Historic Parks and Gardens Register! Richmond is London's largest Royal Park at 2,500 acres, home to 630 Red and Fallow deer, roaming freely just like their ancestors in 1637.

Bushy Park is the second-largest of London's Royal Parks, just north of Hampton Court Palace and easy to access from Hounslow. This over-1,000-acre park also boasts roaming herds of deer and wildlife, plus sprawling gardens and woodland to explore. Stroll around the Longford River, cover the mile-long Chestnut Avenue and see the charming Diana Fountain – a perfect day out year-round.

If you don't feel like travelling from Hounslow to enjoy a walk, good news! Hounslow Heath is a beautiful nature reserve in the centre of the area. Hounslow Heath once covered over 4,000 acres. Although today it's just over 200, there's still plenty of space to enjoy a wild walk around the network of trails, through wildflower meadows, grasslands, wetlands and woods.
