The room was moderately clean but there were signs of dust and mould in the bathroom. There was a mild smell which progressively got worse over the days of our stay, and it seemed to be a sewerage plumbing issue coming from the bathroom. Carpets were horribly worn and discoloured and contributed to the musty stale room smell. Thank goodness slippers were provided. The balcony was lovely to have to enjoy the golf course views but the floor decking was all worn, dirty and not very appealing. The beds were comfortable and the tv / foxtel channels was good have. Breakfast was the same everyday and there were sticky flies swarming the tables whilst we ate. I found a dead fly in the scrambled eggs bainmarie and the pastries and fruit were left uncovered.Service was a tad slow given there were not many people around having breakfast. We moved rooms due to the smell, but unfortunately the room smell was still present. It was not as bad but l think these rooms need to be completely refurbished.

Dear LUISA, Thank you for taking the time to tell us about your experience at the Mercure Portsea. I am sorry that your experience on this occasion did not meet your expectations; please allow me to express my sincerest apologies. We did provide you a complimentary upgrade for your four-night stay. When we were notified of the smell we did investigate. We also offered and initiated a room move, this also included to the upgraded room type. A refund for the final night of your reservation was also provided as well as complimentary breakfast on the final morning of your stay (due to the inconvenience of the room move). Prior to moving rooms, we allowed you to inspect the new room to check you were happy before assisting you with the move. Breakfast is currently served as a buffet. Whilst scrambled eggs are provided on the buffet, eggs can also be cooked to order including poached or fried as an alternate offering. We were delighted to hear the bed was comfortable. Our guests regularly review our site, on most occasions the feedback is positive regarding cleanliness. Pease note, we have scheduled a refurbishment of the rooms during May to August 2026, this will include new carpet, beds and new interior finishes.
