Nice location, very well-kept rooms. They hosted events both nights we stayed, not sure if this was common - but it didn't give us the relaxing vibe we were hoping for. They also served us drinks at the bar on Saturday night, then proceeded to let us know there was no seats we could use as they had already started cleaning for the evening & would be closing early to prep for an event the following day. We perched at the edge of the counter to finish our drinks, while the staff cleaned around us. It was a nice stay...but at every point we were made to feel rather secondary to the multiple events they were hosting across our 2.5 day stay.

I stayed at Novotel Geelong a long time ago and came back this weekend while in town to see a play at Geelong Arts Centre. Location is great and it was pleasing to see the hotel had had a refresh. The renovation made the room fresh (although the shower head needs replacement because it keeps falling down) and comfortable. I liked the room very much. There was a wedding downstairs, which was mostly ok. Some acoustic treatment to rooms could help to deal with the noise from such functions. My main disappointment was the interactions with staff at both check in and check out. My partner and I are Accor Diamond and Gold respectively. I don’t mean that in a ‘don’t you know who I am’ way, but more to say we stay at a lot of Accor hotels around the world every year. On check out, the receptionist asked if I had taken anything from the mini bar and I replied no. At every Accor brand I have stayed at, that is usually satisfactory - but here I was asked to wait while housekeeping verified this. That would ordinarily be fine, no harm in waiting. However, when I was called back to the desk I was told that there were three items missing from the mini bar. It was presented in an accusatory tone and when I enquired what they were I was told it was 3 bottles of wine. I don’t drink alcohol and it was an uncomfortable situation, slightly tense because how do I prove I didn’t take them?. I am glad the duty manager told the receptionist to waive it off, but this whole interaction left a very bad taste in my mouth. There was no apology and I couldn’t help but think this whole approach was very unusual compared to my previous Accor check out experiences. I’m still not sure how it came to be that there was a view that these items were taken from the mini bar. From time to time, I do use the mini bar for snacks but always fess up to it. If this checking process is something the hotel regularly does, I’d encourage you to review this practice. On a more minor note, again not as a ‘don’t you know who I am’ but I found staff at check in less recognising of loyalty status. This is the only hotel I have stayed at where this has occurred. Rooms very poorly appointed. Single beds not king singles in twin room. Staff not attentive or accommodating and very little local knowledge and very poor english. Overall very underwhelming experience.

Hotel location is amazing everything is just around the corner. Staff is good. It just room cleaning was not the up to the mark. We found one lost property from previous guest behind the couch. Also glasses and tea kettle was dirty. Please focus on that area. Breakfast was also so so.

Staff generally isn’t very accommodating. The restaurant is the poorest in this regard. I’ve stayed here for many weeks over the past 6 months and that impression is consistent. I’m used to the Marriott experience which caters to business travelers. Also little things like my portfolio wasn’t mailed to me but this survey made it.
