Overall, we had a pleasant stay at Novotel Jakarta Gajah Mada. The highlight of our experience was definitely the staff. Everyone was very friendly, welcoming, and always willing to help, which made us feel comfortable throughout our stay. The location is also very convenient, with easy access to many places in the city. The breakfast was decent, but we expected a bit more variety. The selection was quite similar every morning, so it became a little repetitive after a few days. Other than that, everything was good, and we enjoyed our stay. We would recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a comfortable and centrally located place to stay in Jakarta.

Having stayed at Novotel Jakarta Gajah Mada since 2016, I believe I have earned the perspective of a genuinely loyal guest. Over the past decade, I have experienced this hotel through its best years, during the COVID-19 pandemic, and now in its current state. It is precisely because I care about this property that I feel compelled to share this feedback. Unfortunately, my most recent stay left me with the impression that standards have gradually declined in several important areas. Upon arrival, there was only one staff member handling security, concierge duties, luggage assistance, and guest arrivals simultaneously. While I cannot praise this gentleman enough for remaining warm, attentive, and professional despite the workload, expecting one individual to perform multiple front-of-house functions at a four-star international hotel is simply unreasonable. Likewise, there was only one active check-in counter despite several guests arriving. Regardless of membership status, this created unnecessary waiting. I would like to specifically commend both the security officer and the Guest Service Associate for delivering excellent hospitality under what appeared to be challenging staffing conditions. They deserve recognition. As an ALL Platinum member, I also noticed the absence of the thoughtful recognition I had become accustomed to over many years of staying here. Previous visits often included a personalized welcome letter from the Manager on Duty or General Manager. This time, there was none. While I did appreciate the welcome amenity, consisting of several small pastries, the experience felt noticeably less personal than before. Loyalty is built not only through benefits but through meaningful recognition. Breakfast was unfortunately the most disappointing aspect of my stay. As an ALL Platinum member, complimentary breakfast is a standard benefit. After I had already entered the restaurant and begun selecting food from the buffet, a staff member approached me in front of other guests and informed me that my room "did not come with breakfast." This should never have happened. Not only had I already started serving myself, but the matter was also addressed publicly rather than being verified discreetly beforehand. I was then placed in the uncomfortable position of having to explain my Platinum benefits while other diners could clearly hear the conversation. Such situations are avoidable with proper communication between the Front Office and the restaurant team and should be handled far more discreetly to preserve the guest's dignity. The breakfast itself also fell below expectations. The variety was limited, and many dishes lacked the quality and flavor I remember from previous stays. Ironically, I genuinely recall enjoying a much better breakfast at this hotel during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic than I did during this visit. That comparison alone speaks volumes. The guestrooms likewise require greater attention. The LED lighting beneath the television was not functioning, portions of the walls showed visible holes and wear, and the room lighting consisted of an inconsistent mix of cool white and warm bulbs, creating an unfinished appearance. These may seem like minor details individually, but collectively they reflect declining maintenance standards. One detail that particularly puzzled me was the entertainment system. I noticed that the standard rooms appear to have newer and better televisions than some of the suites. That feels counter intuitive. Suites should showcase the hotel's best accommodations, not older equipment than entry-level rooms. I sincerely hope management reviews this inconsistency during future refurbishment plans. On a positive note, I would like to compliment management on one particular decision. Over the years I have experienced the Executive Lounge in its original dedicated top-floor location, later relocated to the restaurant, and now at the bar. In my opinion, the current bar concept is by far the best implementation. It offers a more comfortable atmosphere, better ambiance, and a far more enjoyable guest experience. It is a meaningful improvement that deserves recognition. Another operational policy that deserves reconsideration is the handling of food deliveries and parcels. Requiring guests to collect deliveries from the basement is unnecessarily inconvenient. More importantly, it presents accessibility concerns for guests with mobility limitations or leg injuries, particularly given the lack of direct elevator access. A designated collection point or secure shelving near the concierge desk would provide a much better guest experience while maintaining operational efficiency. Finally, I would like to address how this feedback is handled. As someone who has supported this hotel for nearly ten years, I sincerely hope my comments are read by someone empowered to make meaningful improvements rather than generating a standard automated response. Please do not respond with a generic template thanking me for my feedback without addressing the specific concerns I have raised. Guests can easily distinguish between a personalized response and a copied-and-pasted email. Should I receive nothing more than a generic template response, I will reasonably conclude that this feedback has not been genuinely considered. At that point, I would feel more inclined to share my experience publicly across travel review sites and social media so that other travelers have a balanced understanding of the current guest experience. This review is not written out of anger but out of genuine disappointment from someone who has repeatedly chosen Novotel Jakarta Gajah Mada for almost a decade. I know the standards this hotel was once capable of because I experienced them firsthand. The location remains excellent, many members of your frontline team continue to provide outstanding hospitality despite obvious operational challenges, and the hotel still has tremendous potential. However, understaffing, declining maintenance, inconsistent elite recognition, avoidable service failures, and a breakfast experience that no longer reflects the expectations of an international four-star hotel deserve management's immediate attention. I sincerely hope this review is received in the constructive spirit in which it is intended. I would much rather return in the future and write about how successfully the hotel has improved than continue to witness the gradual decline of a property I have recommended for many years.
