As three family members - three generations, in fact - travelling together, we chose the one bedroom suite. It consists of a hallway with a good sized closet - half with a door and half open - for coats & shoes &c, leading to a living room with a kitchenette with sink, stove, and microwave oven along one wall, a dining area with a small round table and two dining chairs, and a lounge area with a double sofa bed & a TV mounted on the wall; a door between the kitchenette & the TV leads to the bedroom with a king size bed, two bedside tables. a second TV mounted on wall, a large space for up to two small to medium suitcases, and a hanging rail above it, a cupboard with shelves, and an ensuite bathroom. This room was quite comfortable for three or four people. The only suggestions I have are: (1) It would have been helpful to have as many dining chairs as guests (e.g. since we were a party of three; three chairs would have been ideal, especially since the sofa bed was being used by one of us as a bed), and similarly, an applicable number of pieces of crockery & cutlery. (2) It would have been helpful to have more towel rails, or a portable rack for hanging multiple towels or laundry to dry. (3) It would have been helpful have somewhere for the third (and where applicable fourth) person to put their luggage, as the space in the bedroom is only big enough for two cases. (4) The light switches in this suite appear to have wired rather oddly, as manipulating the switches in the living area and the bedroom did not allow us to switch off all the lights over the sofa bed while leaving a light or lamp on in the dining area. We were able to leave the strip lighting over the kitchen bench on, but nothing else. Perhaps a standing lamp next to the dining area, facing away from the sofa, would be helpful, to allow the quiet use of the dining area while the person or people occupying the sofa bed are asleep. Apart from these minor points, the suite was very comfortable, with plenty of natural light during daylight hours. The meals at this hotel are excellent. We enjoyed the wide range of breakfast items on offer every day, as well as lunch and/or dinner in the restaurant on a few occasions. The hotel is conveniently located only a short walk from tram stops, bus stops, various parks, the Vanalinn (Old Town), the Rotermanni Kvartal, the shopping centres a little further south (Apollo Plaza, Postimaja Keskus, Viru Keskus), cafes, restaurants, supermarkets and laundromats. (Although the hotel has Miele appliances - washing machine & dryer - for guest use in the basement, we never happened to find the washing machine available, as it always seemed to be in use by other guests, so we went to a laundromat next to a Rimi supermarket on Põhja Puiestee, which was inexpensive, quite clean, open until midnight, and only a short walk or a one-stop tram ride away.) The staff were all extremely professional and helpful, but also very pleasant and friendly, which made our extended stay very congenial. Lastly, the room rate was extremely competitive for the high standard of accommodation and meals and excellent staff. We would certainly stay at the Novotel Tallinn again, and definitely recommend it.

Although the hotel’s facilities were nice, our overall stay was very disappointing. We stayed in two different rooms. Our first room (Room 515) had a faulty air-conditioning system. The temperature sensor didn’t work properly, so the air conditioner ran all night, making the room uncomfortably cold. When we returned after being out, we also found that the housekeeping had done an extremely poor job. (The housekeeping was fine on the other days. ) Since the air conditioner couldn’t be fixed and the room wasn’t being cleaned properly, we felt the only solution was to change rooms. We were then moved to Room 312, but unfortunately that room had a serious drainage problem in the shower. After only a few minutes of showering, the water would overflow onto the bathroom floor, so we had to keep turning the shower on and off every one or two minutes. At that point, we had completely lost confidence in the hotel. We didn’t believe changing rooms again would make any difference, nor did we expect to receive any meaningful assistance. Overall, it was a very disappointing stay
