On arrival, the check-in desk was not particularly busy, with one lady on reception and a man at the concierge desk. I joined the queue behind one family and waited for over 30 minutes. During this time, people who queued behind me were asked to move to other desks ahead of me, meaning they were seen before me. I asked whether the concierge staff member could check me in, but he said no. Finally, just as the family in front of me finished, another party arrived who appeared to be friends with them and pushed ahead of me to be checked in first. This was extremely frustrating. I went for breakfast, which was a good part of the deal that we could check in an have breakfast. I was surprised at how chaotic the restaurant was. Staff did not seat guests, so I had to wander around with my young children trying to find a table. There were empty tables, but many were not clean. It felt as though more staff were needed to support the number of guests. After a nice day at the water park, we returned to use the hotel pool. I was very disappointed to find that the family pool was closed, particularly as I had two children with me. The adult pool looked nice, but throughout our stay there were no available sunbeds. I wondered why more sunbeds were not placed around this pool. I then tried the children’s pool, but the heater was broken, making the water freezing cold. This was especially disappointing because the weather on Thursday was very bad and too cold for children to comfortably use an unheated pool. As the weather worsened, it was frustrating that there were no suitable indoor places where guests could sit away from the weather while still making use of the all-inclusive drinks package. My friends and I found a temporary solution by sitting outside the Turquoise restaurant and carrying drinks from the pool bar, but we were told this was not allowed. I believe there should have been more flexibility and support from staff during poor weather conditions. That evening, we went to dinner at 7:00 pm at the Turquoise restaurant, which was our only available option. It was extremely chaotic. We queued for a long time, and like breakfast, guests were not seated by staff. There were tables for six occupied by only two people, many guests wandering around looking for tables, and general confusion throughout the restaurant. We had to sit our children down to eat while we stood, and once they finished, we sent them to the play area so that we could finally sit and eat ourselves. This did not feel like a five-star premium experience. On our second day, I booked the steak restaurant. I was frustrated that we had to pay a 75 QAR surcharge per person because we were staying for two nights, but I did not want to eat in Turquoise again, so I made the booking. When I arrived for the reservation, I became extremely unhappy. I was told by the waitress that we could not pay the advertised all-inclusive guest option and that we could only order from the à la carte menu. I tried to explain the situation, and a manager came to confirm that we could only pay the all-inclusive option if we stayed three nights. I repeatedly tried to explain, but no one would listen. Our friends, who stayed three nights, had their steak restaurant booking on Wednesday night and did not pay the surcharge. We ended up paying over 600 QAR for our meal. In fact, it would have been cheaper to book an extra night at the hotel. When I checked out, the receptionist told me that the steak restaurant staff were wrong to do this and that we should have been charged the all-inclusive surcharge for the set menu. I am extremely unhappy about this, as I feel we were unfairly charged more money. Overall, I am very unhappy with our stay and would not choose Rixos again based on this experience. We had a great stay at Rixos Gulf in December and were very happy with all aspects there. Unfortunately, I cannot say that anything about our stay at Rixos Premium Qetaifan felt “premium.” Much of the experience felt closer to a three-star standard. After raising a complaint, I was pleased to be offered a complimentary night to come back and dine in “one of our restaurants” on a weekday. However, when I later provided a date, I was offered the buffet restaurant rather than the steak restaurant that had previously overcharged me. This was disappointing, as it did not feel like a fair resolution to the original issue.

Overall stay was satisfactory. However, Staff at the reception sent us to 4 different counters before we we were able to check in. I know it might be busy but you can’t just point your clients to different counters 4x. The staff still needs customer relations skills.

Our stay was very disappointing from the beginning. The bathroom door in our first room was broken, and we had to leave the room from 12:00 PM until 3:00 PM so maintenance could fix it. Unfortunately, nothing was repaired during that time. When we contacted the staff again, they came back to inspect it and told us it would take another hour to fix, but we refused because we had already lost several hours of our day waiting. At around 7:00 PM, we were moved to another room with a Meryal view as compensation. However, the new room had the same bathroom door problem, plus another issue because the water was cold. The next morning at 7:00 AM, maintenance came again to repair it. Instead of enjoying our holiday, most of our time was spent dealing with maintenance problems. We booked an all-inclusive stay, but after moving rooms both mini fridges were empty. After asking the staff to refill them, they came after 30 minutes and only filled one fridge. We had to contact them again, and they spent another 30 minutes to 1 hour checking before finally filling the second one. In the end, we were offered late check-out and a room upgrade for a future stay as compensation, but honestly after everything that happened, I do not think we will return. I had previously recommended this hotel to family and friends, but after this experience, I would not recommend it to anyone.
