Housekeeping was a big disappointment, coffee saucer was kept for days, only bed sheets thrown back, rooms and floors not cleaned! I was surprised to witness this service from a well known name such as Accor. Third night only extreme hot water was available in bathroom, couldn’t use the shower that night.

Very disappointing 3-night stay at Mercure Oxford Hawkwell House. We had problems with the room almost every day. First, the bathroom sink was completely blocked and unusable. Reception initially told me maintenance would take about an hour, I explained I couldn’t even brush my teeth and needed to leave for a conference, then only the maintenance team presented. The next day, we found bugs and a spider in the room and realised the roof window/skylight had been left open. The closing mechanism was faulty and smoke actually came out when I tried to close it. I reported this immediately, but after waiting almost an hour, nobody came. When I went to reception myself, I was told all the maintenance staff were in a meeting. This was unbelievable considering there was smoke from the mechanism and insects continuing to enter the room. After repeatedly pushing for help, someone finally came and confirmed the motor was faulty and could not be repaired that day. I had to ask them to manually close the window. Later that night, there was no water supply to the toilet. Reception eventually told me the technician had forgotten to turn the valve back on after servicing, and I had to wait another 15–20 minutes for the water supply to recover. A blocked sink, bugs, a broken skylight producing smoke, very slow maintenance response, and then no toilet water — all within a 3-night stay. Technical problems can happen, but the repeated failures and poor follow-up were unacceptable. For a Mercure hotel, I expected much better. Based on my experience, I would not recommend this hotel.

Very professional, lovely place, food excellent. The only criticism is that the room doors are fitted with a perco door closer, and that ment that all the doors slam shut . This kept us awake most of the night.

On our first night the food was very good but it was disappointing that no dessert menu was available. On the second night the food was also good but on the third night, the dining room a. half of the bar were closed, leaving only a choice of three tables. When the food was served (the Sunday roast) we were extremely disappointed that the food was almost cold a. the chicken was dried up, tough a. inedible. It had to be returned a. no substitute was offered apart from a dessert, which we declined. In fairness, we were refunded for one meal. On the plus side, we were impressed with the way the reception staff helped us to organise the return of an item we dropped outside the building as we were leaving.

We stayed with our two dogs for an overnight stay in Oxford. Super friendly staff gave us a warm welcome. Room was spacious and clean and we appreciated the slightly quieter location just aside from the main hotel block. Free parking was included which was part of the reason we chose this hotel. Oxford is in walking distance (about 40 mins) but we caught the bus which was really easy from just down the road with regular buses every 10 mins. (Nb you cant take a car into the centre of oxford). Just a warning if you are travelling with dogs, I hear Mecure are changing their pet policy which will limit room availability and increase the price dramatically... worth checking out in advance if you are planning to pay on arrival so you dont have a nasty surprise.

I would rather this remain private, as I like this hotel. It's in a nice location, the staff are helpful and it is great to have parking. However, I was disappointed with this stay. We had 3 rooms. The King Room (110) smells of damp. The window sill was dirty. The tea and coffee provisions were sparse. The bathroom is looking very "tired", with mould around the door. Noisy hoovering began outside the door before 8am. The small double had not been cleaned - there was half empty carton of milk in the fridge. Also it was a disabled room (room 109) (we were not told), so the shower was not really suitable. In fairness, my daughter was moved to a different room upstairs next to the lift. Bathroom tired looking. No water provided. And she was woken at 6:30am by the laundry room next to her room. I've stayed with you often on my trips to Oxford and frequently recommended the hotel to others. I really hope they have a better experience than we did this time. We paid nearly £1000 for 3 rooms for 2 nights - they should at least be clean and we should not be woken up early in the morning by cleaners.

This is a charming property in a lovely edge-of-city yet peaceful and attractive location. Bedrooms comfortable. However breakfast service was nothing short of chaotic. The 1st morning it was poor, the 2nd morning it was shambolic. It was hard to find anything to eat. Dirty tables (we cleared our own to sit down), no cups, intermittent service from one coffee machine (that was woefully inadequate given the number of guests). Alternative coffee provided in thermos jugs was undrinkable. Hot buffet counter was not kept stocked - so there was literally nothing to eat. Food seemed to arrive randomly one pot at a time so you couldn’t get a full plate of hot food. Fruit, yoghurt, juices all ran out and sat empty for 20 minutes or more. It didn’t seem like anybody was organising anything. I only counted 3 staff, totally overwhelmed. One young chap was very polite and did his best to help find cutlery, cups etc. The chaos on the 2nd day was reported to the front desk but nobody appeared to take control. Such a shame as hotel was decent overall but breakfast was absolutely shocking.
