No lift in operation and then at breakfast when I ordered an omelette, I was told it was not possible as no gas!!! These 2 incidents were disappointing as my 2 night stay was the most expensive I have paid over the many years j have stayed at Hawkwell House (£380 !).... I will have to think long and hard before I book again. I should have been alarmed when I booked...I mentioned to the person who took my booking that I had "reward points", she didn't understand !!!!!

Great hotel perfectly located fir our needs it was our 4th or 5th stay at the hotel. Room was fine and breakfast excellent choice as ever the only problem was a noisy dog in the room above us that both stopped us getting sleep and barked to wake us up just before 7am. Not ideal for a weekend break. I suggest the hotel puts guests with digs on the ground floor preferably next to any other guests who decide to travel with their canine friends.

Very good stay on the whole. Reception team very helpful, breakfast lady Wendy super friendly. Rooms clean and office team great at helping me organise our group. Some in our group were disappointed there was no kitchen breakfast orders on the Sunday. Noisy fan/generator and also noisy staff early morning outside window. Room 219. I have stayed before and this time I brought 13 of my extended family along, it would have been nice to have been allocated a better room location as the group organiser.

What was good: the setting, the ease of travel in and out of the city, the friendliness, availability and willingness of staff, the room, cleanliness, the quiet at night What was less good: lift being out of order, lack of gas impacting breakfast - disappointed to not be able to order something from the breakfast menu, very limited range of gluten free cereals, alternative baked goods or small treats in place of the croissants etc
