Not worth the money

We booked this hotel for my partners Xmas party. We arrived at 3pm to check in and the queue was absolutely ridiculous. Ever have I ever seen a queue like this. 40mins of waiting for us to finally check in! We was then told we had to pay £12 for the car park, not happy about this especially as the car park entrance is a literal car killer, no drop kerb and scraped my bumper on the floor getting in and out! The room was tiny, nothing like the photos, the lighting was dull and as I needed to do my hair and make up this was a struggle. There was a dressing table but I couldn’t see a thing. When we was ready we decided to go and have a drink in the bar, well this never happened because we was waiting for over 10 minutes to be served. There wasn’t even a queue. Just one guy on his own serving the whole area. He said he would be another 5 mins before he was free to serve us so we just upped and left at this point. This hotel wasn’t cheap and I would definitely expect more. Won’t come Back again and wouldn’t recommend.

Shocking

Booked Mercure thinking it would be a smooth process but boy I was wrong. Arrived early and checked in and was told to come back at 3 for our key, not a problem we knew check in was 3.00pm.Came back at 3.10 to the biggest queue to check in I've ever seen. We went to the desk as we had already checked in but were told to join the line and wait, 1 hour later still in the queue, never again Mercure you are a joke, what happened to self check in like the cheaper options of accommodation. Poor Very Poor.

Awful Damp Smell from Mouldy Bathroom Ceiling

TripAdvisor rating 1.0/5

Karen E TripAdvisor review

I stayed at this hotel for two nights, with my mother who was there as my carer. We stayed in room 150, which was suitably accessible to meet my needs as a wheelchair user. When we checked into our room, there was a faint smell of damp, but it was not bad enough to warrant trying to change rooms, particularly as alternate accessible rooms are rarely available. The room was very cold when we checked in, and I can only assume the windows had been opened to air it. There was an electric heater provided, and the room was soon warmed to a comfortable temperature. We identified the source of the damp as the ceiling in the bathroom, which had clear signs of damp and was mouldy. The sink in the bathroom was also badly cracked. The damp smell was particularly bad whenever we returned to the room. However, we got used to the smell after a short time in the room and we so made the best of our stay. I was going to give feedback when I checked out, however, there was some kind of event going on in the reception area, and I could only drop off the keys, without joining a very long queue. Upon arriving home, my husband immediately noticed that my clothing smelled of damp. So too did all of the clothing my mother and I had taken with us. Everything has had to be laundered, even clean unworn clothes, and our winter coats. I was also disappointed by the wheelchair access to the swimming pool. I would have to ask at reception for a member of staff to be take me outside and around to the hotel, to then go in through a fire escape. Whilst all the staff were polite and tried to be helpful, there were clearly not enough staff and there was always a queue at reception. The appeal of using leisure facilities at a hotel is the luxury of being able to wrap myself in a gown and then return to a warm and spacious room to get dried and changed. Besides the inherent indignity of the access process, I am very susceptible to the cold, and having to go outside after swimming, in order to get back to the room, was enough to prevent me from being able to use the facilities. Some staff at the hotel must be aware of the damp, as they knew to air the room before our arrival. This is clearly not satisfactory. Fortunately, my health condition does not affect my breathing, but the room could have been dangerous for someone with compromised respiration. The cause of the damp in room 150 needs to be investigated and remediated, and the bathroom then needs refurbishment. They also need to inform people enquiring about accessible rooms about the arrangements for access to the pool before they commit. I am especially frustrated that when I emailed the hotel with my complaint I did not get a response. I would have much preferred the hotel to have taken action to resolve the issues, rather than making my complaints public on here. However, if they are not willing to change anything then others should be warned.

Service great. Hotel disappointing

Firstly I will say the team at the hotel are superb. All service I received has been brilliant. Unfortunately the same cannot be said for the hotel. Whilst some of the public areas have been modernised to a standard, it is actually a very tired hotel. On arrival there was an issue with my booking which was quickly resolved. My room was compact however there was a dreadful smell throughout. The air conditioning was broken which also didn’t help. I used the gym and was pleasantly surprised to see two peloton bikes - unfortunately one was broken and the other not set up correctly. Breakfast was good although both the coffee machines were out of action. A little more attention to detail would have made my stay so much better

Dissapointing

Mouldy bathroom ceiling, double room very small, poor lighting, noisy heating kept me awake. Bar good, breakfast good. Won't be staying again
