Arriving at lunchtime on a busy conference-heavy Friday afternoon, our party of 16 were allocated a twelve person table and told there were no other tables available. We were travelling as a group booking with Distant Journeys having spent more than a week on safari. We did not feel looked after. The Friday lunch buffet looked quite forlorn after the tea drinkers had ravaged it and there weren’t many alternatives. I got a lukewarm veg soup and some bread. Our room was nice and after the hubbub of the afternoon the peace was appreciated. But come nightfall and getting ready for bed we noticed the steady thrum of machinery, audible through the walls and a constant blocker to good sleep. It’s room 1016, try it at 0100hrs and hear what we heard, air con infrastructure maybe, certainly enough the drive my wife insane with the lack of quiet.

However, we believe the recognition and treatment of ALL Platinum and higher-tier members could be significantly improved, particularly in the Executive Lounge. The lounge itself was quite basic and did not provide the level of experience we expected. One particular interaction was disappointing. When we tried to open the refrigerator to have a drink, it was locked. The lounge attendant immediately told us that if we wanted a drink, we had to consume it in the lounge and could not take the bottle to our room. We found this response surprising and inappropriate, as we had never asked or suggested that we intended to take anything to our room. As Platinum members, we would expect a warmer and more professional approach, with better recognition of loyalty status both in the lounge and throughout the hotel. Apart from this issue, our overall stay was verv good.

This hotel is very dark and depressing. Especially the business lounge is dark. While it is depressing for hotel guests I feel sorry for the very kind staff who have to work there all day. In other countries the authorities would not allow such dark rooms (lobby, business lounge, restaurant). At 21st century there are many options having bright lights which save costs. I wonder why the management has not realized this.

We worked with the Events team to organize a conference. The conference went well, and the Events team was flexible to work with our changing circumstances over five days. Beatrice was accommodating and very responsive to our team's needs. The staff at the restaurant were also very welcoming and helpful, including Beth and Jackline. There were some mix-ups with the payments for extra nights for a few guests, but once we clarified, all was swiftly in order.
