Hotel is located in a couple of minutes walk from the train station and restaurants bars and shops. We were there for a football game and it was really convenient to be near the “fan zone” as well. Staff at the hotel were very nice and accommodating in every way - check in, check out, parking, etc. Wr arrived early in the morning after flying for 9hrs and then driving for 3 hours, so they were very understanding and allowed us to check in early without charging us. Food at breakfast was also very good. The room was clean and had everything we needed except for air conditioning, which I didn’t even think about asking about before we booked since we americans are spoiled and assume that every hotel is air conditioned. We tried to open the window but the street was very noisy, especially around football games. So if it wasn’t for lack of AC and the noise we had a decent stay. Thank you

Additionally, we are troubled to hear of the discomfort caused by bugs and the lack of sufficient towels. Moreover, we take your feedback on the room rate during the football game seriously, and we want to assure you that our pricing is competitive within the market and reflects the increased demand during significant local events. Dear Sir/Madam, I am writing to formally lodge a complaint concerning my recent stay at the ibis Styles Hotel Gelsenkirchen, which I booked through your website. I am deeply dissatisfied with the disparity between the advertised amenities and the actual conditions of the rooms, as well as the substandard hygiene I encountered during my stay at ibis Styles Hotel Gelsenkirchen Deceptive Advertising Upon arrival, I was dismayed to find that the rooms were significantly different from those depicted on your official website. The advertised images and descriptions promised a modern, clean, and comfortable environment. Contrary to these representations, the actual rooms were outdated, poorly maintained, and in no way comparable to what was marketed. This constitutes a clear case of misleading advertising, which violates § 5 of the Gesetz gegen den unlauteren Wettbewerb (UWG), the German law against unfair competition. According to § 5 UWG, misleading commercial practices are prohibited, particularly those involving false or deceptive information about the main characteristics of the goods and services offered. Unhygienic Conditions In addition to the deceptive advertising, the hygiene standards at the hotel were horrible. The rooms were dirty, with stained carpets, unclean bathrooms, and dust-laden surfaces. This condition poses serious health risks and demonstrates a blatant disregard for basic sanitary practices. This is a direct violation of Article 6 of the EU Directive 2011/83/EU on consumer rights, which mandates that goods and services must be of satisfactory quality and fit for the purposes for which such goods and services are commonly supplied. Breach of Contract and German Civil Code (BGB) Furthermore, the poor state of the rooms and lack of hygiene represent a breach of contract under German Civil Code (Bürgerliches Gesetzbuch, BGB), specifically §§ 535-548, which detail the obligations of the landlord to provide the tenant with a property in a condition suitable for its contractual use. The conditions I encountered were far from suitable, and this breach entitles me to a reduction in the agreed rental price and compensation for any resulting damages. Prepaid Reservation and Alternative Accommodation I had paid for my reservation in advance, expecting to receive the quality of service and accommodation advertised. However, due to the unacceptable conditions, I had no choice but to vacate the ibis Styles Hotel Gelsenkirchen and secure alternative accommodation at another hotel, incurring additional expenses and considerable inconvenience. In an attempt to resolve this issue amicably, I offered to accept a refund for all days except the first day of my stay. However, I was informed that all booked days were non-refundable, despite the significant issues I encountered. This response is unacceptable given the misleading advertising and the poor conditions of the accommodation. Request for Resolution In light of these issues, I request the following actions: Full Refund: A full refund of the amount paid in advance for my stay at ibis Styles Hotel Gelsenkirchen. Compensation: Additional compensation for the inconvenience, distress, and extra costs incurred due to the need to move to another hotel. Rectification Measures: Immediate rectification of the misleading content on your website and an overhaul of the hygiene standards at the ibis Styles Hotel Gelsenkirchen to ensure compliance with legal requirements. Failure to address these concerns adequately will compel me to escalate this matter to the relevant consumer protection authorities, including the European Consumer Centre (ECC) and the German Federal Office of Justice (Bundesamt für Justiz), and consider legal action to enforce my rights. I trust that ACCOR will handle this complaint with the seriousness it warrants and look forward to a prompt resolution. Yours sincerely,

Dear Mrs. K., we have taken note of your feedback about your short stay at the Ibis Styles Hotel Gelsenkirchen. It is very unfortunate that you did not feel comfortable in our house. Since guest satisfaction is our top priority, we have of course examined your complaint in detail with the hotel team with all related points you have addressed to inspect significant defects. However, our results of your complaint present a different picture, so we would like to make it clear in advance that we consider your complaints to be unjustified and reject any claims. After checking rooms 416 & 422, we cannot confirm that these rooms did not meet hygienic standards as it was presented by you. Furthermore, it is not correct or verifiable that all the room pictures published on the Internet correspond to what you were assigned upon arrival. According to our team, you wanted to use an Ibis in Düsseldorf from the start of your journey and asked to transfer the advance payment (Hotel Deal was booked by you) , which is not possible because they are different independent companies. You were also offered alternative rooms, which you unfortunately declined. We would also like to inform you that ACCOR as a hotel company has different franchise partners and does not manage this hotel himself, in the case of Gelsenkirchen it is operated by the GCH Hotel Group, so it is not possible to change hotels within the Ibis chain with advance payment, as already explained, which we are sure you will understand. You can be assured that as a hotel company we constantly check and optimize our hotels for quality standards, which is ultimately additionally checked by ACCOR. I booked two rooms for two nights online. One double room for myself, and one twin room for my two grown up sons Upon arrival, I was told no more twin rooms were available, so my sons had to share a double bed! The reception staff were unfriendly, and with no room for negotiation…I had paid €330 per room , per night…and they had to share a bed

Very short walk from central station, good, firm mattresses. Rooms poorly soundproofed, no real atmosphere / flair in the room, very little facilities in the room (no water cooker, no fridge, 2 towels only)
