Generally okay in a city with few options

If you're planning to visit Bochum, the Mercure may be one of just a few options you have for accommodations in the downtown area. Very close to the train station, Mercure offers decent rooms, a varied breakfast, and easy access to attractions downtown. The staff are fine though not particularly friendly. The rooms are functional but often not cleaned that well. Still, if you are lucky enough to get a clean room and are reasonably fluent in German, you'll probably find the Mercure one of your best options. Overall, I would stay there again but more out of habit than choice. Efficient but not particularly friendly. Rooms should be cleaned better, but otherwise, the rooms are just fine. Functional enough and reasonably comfortable. Nothing luxurious.

No real restaurant

Adequate rooms although having to go online regularly to order basic cleaning services is frustrating. The worst aspect for anyone staying longer than a night or 2 is the absence of anything other than pizza and the inability to charge to your room. I've stayed in this hotel for ~25 years on an annual basis through 3 different hotel chain owners and it is now the least like a conventional hotel that I have experienced. This is very much a change for the worst. Disappointing.

You need to do everything in this hotel by yourself. Check-in machine does not work and help is not available. Even when you get help, the system does not work and consists of a pile of unnecessary questions. None tells you how to fimd breakfast and when it is served. You need to search the information by yourself feom the bad electrical system. Rooms are a bit outdated. Breakfast (when I found it) was good. Not worth of the money it costs! On-line check-in was far too complicated and time consuming, Room was ok. Hugely disappointed the hotel bar and restaurant were closed on a Monday evening. Self-service snack lobby and bar seemed a good idea but impossible to get a receipt from the machine despite seeking assistance from staff. Automated check-out no better than check-in. You might be saving on people Accor Group but customer satisfaction is reduced as a result. Overall not the best stay I've ever had.

Expected a double bed as it said on the booking

I was given two single beds instead of compact double bed room as per my booking confirmation. Confirmation also said free mineral water would be included but that was not the case. Overall not a great experience as I would expect from Mervure
