I was disappointed to receive a room with two single beds instead of the double room I had booked. The room was also not serviced the following day, as I was informed that housekeeping is only provided every three days. Finally, at check-out, I had to insist on having my payment verified and receiving a printed receipt. Overall, the experience did not fully meet my expectations.

Reasonable hotel bordering on an empty shopping centre. Right next to the main shopping street of the city. Check in was quick and easy but the receptionist did not tell us the hallways of the hotel were uncarpeted. Imagine our shock when arriving at our floor. Thank heavens the room came with double doors so the echoes of other guests were muffled. Still noticeable though. Bed and room were pretty decent. I slept well, the bedding was clean. The room and toilet too. The bathroom was recently done up. Don’t expect to use the toilet in a comfortable manner though. I’m of average height and took ages to hit the seat, hurting my knees in the process The tap for the shower was placed in such a manner that the slightest move backwards would immediately turn the water off. Pretty frustrating when you’re soaping up and rinsing off. Food in the restaurant (schnitzel with fries) was disappointing. The schnitzel was refried. The fries unfortunately could have done with some more time. The jokes of the waiter might have been intended funny but sometimes came across way too snide. Breakfast, albeit it plentiful, was somewhat chaotic. Tables weren’t cleaned so finding a good space to sit was a bit of a challenge. One of the chafing dishes was stuck. None of the serving staff knew how to get this unstuck. I wondered were most of the staff went. Later on I guess I. Found them, smoking, together, on the ‘cozy’ roof terrace. Admittedly, if you compare the terrace to the city itself, I can see why one would describe it as cozy

Overall, I liked the stay at Mercure Duisburg. My rating was lowered for the following reasons: 1) Strong parfume-like smell in the corridors. I think it's okay to usw air freshener but this one left me coughing whenever I left my room. Hence, I recommend using less. 2) I really enjoyed the pool and sauna area, but there is a surveillance camera which likely can see into the sauna area where people are naked. For me, this is unacceptable. 3) The room appliances are nice but it would be great if I could switch off the fridge in case I don't need it.

I am a frequent All Accor member who regularly books the Casino package deals at the MERCURE Hotel Duisburg City . During check in a new receptionist named Ahmed made an inappropriate and unprofessional comment regarding my room rate, calling it’s pretty cheap and comparing to a walk-in guest rate. Discussing or judging a guest’s rate at the front desk entirely uncalled for especially to a repeat customer using legitimate program privileges. Management needs to ensure new hires understand basic hospitality etiquette and guest privacy.

Good stay but was very confusing at check in. I always check in online two days before and normally room is always ready after 3pm. The person on reception took my email got me to sign a form and was told to comeback later. Had no communication from reception so sat in the bar area for nearly an hour. Went back down to reception then was given a room but not the twin room I booked but a double bed room.

Nice refurbishment in the reception area, room was spacious, personell helpful and friendly, only the cleanliness of the room could habe been better. Housekeeping missed quite a few clumps of dust, crumbs of some sort on the floor and sofa and plastic rubbish also on the floor.
