During my stay from 06–10 August, I originally booked a Fairmont Gold room at Fairmont Makati, a room category I’ve always enjoyed for its comfort and consistency. I had no expectations beyond a pleasant stay. I’m a low‑key traveler who simply appreciates warm interactions with staff, and I never assume upgrades, especially during busy periods. But on this trip, something unexpected and deeply meaningful happened. Upon arrival, I was informed that I had been upgraded not just within Fairmont, but across to Raffles Makati, and specifically to the Raffles Legacy Suite. As someone who is not a celebrity, VIP, or high‑profile guest, I was genuinely surprised and humbled. It was a gesture I never anticipated. The Legacy Suite itself was beautiful, spacious, elegant, and filled with the quiet luxury Raffles is known for. But what made the upgrade truly special was not the room; it was the reason behind it. Throughout my stays, I’ve always made it a point to greet housekeeping, restaurant staff, spa staff, and gym staff. It’s natural for me to acknowledge people who work hard every day, and I never expect anything in return. Yet during this stay, I felt that my small gestures of kindness were noticed. The warmth of the Raffles team made the upgrade feel personal. The Mireio Breakfast Team greeted me every morning with genuine smiles and friendly conversations. On my last day, they surprised me with a thoughtful farewell gift such as banana chips, a slice of cake, and a handwritten card filled with heartfelt messages. They even asked for my photo, something I never expected. Their words described me as someone who brightened their mornings, and reading their notes was one of the most touching moments I’ve ever experienced in a hotel. When I fell unwell during the stay, I requested something simple, even instant noodles would have been fine. Instead, the chef personally prepared a fresh chicken noodle soup and sent a warm ginger tea with honey to help me feel better. This wasn’t standard service; it was genuine care. The upgrade from Fairmont Gold to the Raffles Legacy Suite felt less like a transactional benefit and more like a reflection of the human connection I experienced throughout the hotel.
