This hotel looked promising from the outside and initial online reviews; however, it just fell short in a few places. Firstly, the pool. It was freezing cold. I asked hotel staff if they could heat it, and they said it’s not heated, sorry. Considering the pool was one of the reasons I picked this place as I wanted a swim, travellers should take note that the pool is as good as useless on winter days of 22 degrees as the water is simply too cold to be comfortable to step in, let alone swim. What is especially disappointing was reading previous Google reviews confirming the pool was in fact heated. This means the hotel made cutbacks. I had a better experience at Street Beach down the road, except you don’t need to be staying at the hotel to swim there. Secondly, the location. On paper, it looks good; yes, Southbank and Streets Beach is a 10-min walk, but I didn’t like that the nearest train station was deceptively further away than it looked. This was because you had to walk underneath a massive car park first as the train station only has an entrance on that other side. Buses, yep, 15 min walk away. Considering this, I’d rather stay in the city, as a far more convenient base with public transport. I also have to point out when returning to the hotel on foot, from the train station, late at night, that side entrance footpath on Merivale St, the overhead lighting would be switched off - walking through there in the dark felt sketchy and quite uncomfortable. Lastly, probably the most intriguing thing, Accor Gold doesn’t count for anything here. There was no free room upgrade given to the next available category despite it being available. There was no welcome amenity in the room. And the most eye-opening one was when I asked for a late checkout (included Gold perk); the best the receptionist could offer was 1 hour extra, we can do later but you’ll need to pay $25 an hour. Are you kidding me? So there is space but you just want to charge for it? While I accepted this 1 hour extra, I decided to just checkout early and leave my stuff at the hotel for the day. Last time I was in Brisbane, I stayed at the lower tier Ibis Styles in the CBD by Casino. Let me tell you, I got given all 3 things of a free room upgrade, a welcome amenity, and a late checkout into the early afternoon. I’m acknowledging the positives of the relatively comfortable bed and the good view from my room (well, it was in the room category of city view). But overall, this hotel just missed the mark for me, for the reasons listed above, and considering the plethora of Accor properties available in Brisbane, I definitely wouldn’t return here. This hotel did not live up to the premium experience and brand that Novotel is known for. I don’t take pleasure in giving the low rating or bad review, but I’m giving it because you guys need to do better. I would recommend to other Golds who value their status, to also not stay here; you’re just an afterthought. Funny to imagine I had an overall better experience at an Ibis Styles in the same city.

Convenient location in the Brisbane city central with many restaurants around. The stay (4 nights) was good overall. Some improvement suggestion are the cleanliness of the room especially in the bathroom area and breakfast selections.

I was extremely disappointed that all you could provide was instant coffee - pretty pathetic as I have stayed in many establishments that at a minimum have Nespresso. There were very few bathroom items eg. cotton buds, shower cap, small toothpaste etc. The room was quiet until the building noise began at 8am on Sunday however, that is not your responsibility. Parking was not available so that was disappointing. The breakfast buffet was very basic and I would never pay for that again. The coffee machine was easy to use but only provide small cups which you could not easily repeat to get another small amount into the mug.

Room was fantastic, staff were helpful and friendly. Renovations did not impact my stay. The parking however needs optimisation. If you are paying $38 per day for parking you expect to have a spot when you arrive back, and not have to park in random spots.
