We have stayed here many times without a hitch but this time i am not sure what happened . Minimal towers supplied and not changed during stay , no bodywash supplied or available when requested . Bathroom stunk of cigarettes . Food delivered to half our table and rest not only not bought out until other half had finished but came out cold . The entire hotel smelt very strongly of fish causing bar guests to arrive and leave immediately during out stay .

I booked a double room for 2 adults and 2 babies under the age of 2. I called before making my booking to ask what would be provided in the kitchenette as I would need to be able to warm and cool milk for my children. At no point during this was I advised this hotel has no lift and this room was on their top floor. I called back a week before going to confirm this room would be big enough for my disabled mother to get her wheelchair in the room to be told we were on the top floor with no lift. Thankfully they were able to switch us to a downstairs room however there would be no kitchenette so no microwave to warm milk. I was advised by reception that this would be no problem and all I would need to do is speak to the restaurant or bar when I am at the hotel and they will sort it for me. During this call I also double checked my room would have 2 travel cots available as per what I had requested on my booking. This was confirmed. A few days before arriving, I checked in online but the room still stated with kitchenette so on the top floor. I called again to check we would be on the ground floor and again confirmed 1 travel cots would be placed in our room before arrival. Arrived late Saturday evening, had to wheel my children and my mother basically through a hedge due the way the gardeners had trimmed the hedge for the disabled access. We checked in and asked at reception again if 2 travel cots were placed in our room to be told yes this is what housekeeping were asked to do. Upon reaching our room with 2 hot and tired children we were greeted with a soaking wet carpet from the leaking aircon and just 1 travel cot. Went to reception to be told the aircon is normal due to the weather and they will get another travel cot to us ASAP. While we waiting I decided to get the children ready for bed and get their milk ready. Around 30 minutes later still no travel cot so I go to reception, milk in hand asking where the travel cot is and where I can get the milk heated up. I was told the hotel had no more travel cots available and they have had to ask a neighbouring hotel to borrow one which would be around another 20 minutes wait. I was also told that despite being told the restaurant or bar would heat my milk up the chef refused to do it and I would have to heat it myself by kettle water. Neither of these were ideal as I needed both the cot and bed quickly as my children needed to get to sleep. Well over an hour after arrival our travel cot finally arrived. We had another minor thing requested to which the lady who came to give us the travel cots advised she would give us a call on the room phone when she has an answer however we had no phone in our room. Fast forward to our second and last night, after a long hot day we decided to order room service. With not having an in room phone and no instructions on how to do this I went back to reception to be told they only offer room service upon earlier request (the night before) and this information was available to us on a green card which should have been found in our room. I assume this green card must have been placed with our room phone as this was also no where to be found. I was told we could order and pay at the restaurant and take it back to our rooms and that they would call our room when it was ready however again this would not work as we had no room phone. All in all, the room was clean and the aircon, although leaking an awful lot, was lovely during this very hot weekend. However the lack in communication and clear lack of knowledge as each person I spoke to seemed to provide me contradicting information really did ruin my experience and lost my faith in booking a Mercure hotel again.

The reception staff were great. The rooms were comfortable and air-conditioned. The bathroom was clean. We stayed about a year ago and had disappointing service in the restaurant and bar and unfortunately this has not changed!! Someone with proper training needs to go and provide proper front of house and service training as the staff were very un-coordinated. The bar was also very slow in providing them with drinks for our table. We cannot stress enough how much this training needs to be done. We would have scored a 10/10 for our stay and think that an 8 is overly praising but as we said the rooms were great.
