So noisy I could not sleep

TripAdvisor rating 2.0/5

daftmare TripAdvisor review

Stayed in this hotel for two nights as part of my tour of NZ. On arrival it appeared to be 'tired' and facilities were limited. The breakfast was exceptionally poor quality with frozen fruit, cold 'hot' offerings, limited other food and only filter coffee available. I asked for 2 poached eggs and waited 25 mins for this. My bedroom (410) was shabby and run down and had no double glazing. As it overlooked the very busy main road junction outside it was incredibly noisy. There was a bar with an outside terrace across the road which was very busy and this noise penetrated into my room. On the saturday night my fit bit recorded that I had 2hrs 36 mins sleep. All in all I would not recommend this hotel to anyone who is a light sleeper and if you are ask for a room not facing out onto the main road. I also used the laundry facilities. A tiny room under the hotel in the car park....very shabby.

Good Location ... But Anly verage At Best...

Mercure is considered a mid-tier chain, but I would rate this hotel average at best, and probably more high-end budget than mid-tier. Still, at a competitive rate per night, it is a good choice for budget-minded travelers who are looking for basic accommodations in a good location. Room was somewhat small but adequate and clean. Basic furnishings including a comfortable bed, and desktop with chair. No power outlets anywhere near the desk. Fortunately I travel with a long extension cord, and this was needed in order to power my laptop computer, which I use a lot when traveling. Wi-fil connection was spotty. Service at reception was cordial and efficient. Elevator requires room key in order to be able to access guest floors providing an extra level of guest security. Location is convenient to shopping, restaurants, most of the CBD, and is within reasonable walking distance of Lambton Quay. Close to many bus route and the Airport Express bus.

Not bad for a 3*

Stayed here for 2 nights, top floor room - well appointed. Limited choice of tea and coffee and no biscuits 😞. Lucky I brought some ftom our previous stay. Very handy, easy walking distance from good bars in Cuba Street and upmarket restaurants towards Lambton Quay.

Don't bother

Difficult to get to via car. Parking is terrible. Hotel hallways and rooms very old. Outdated. We had a view of a car park and a dumpster. Walls thin, heard people talking and laughing all night, car alarm went off every 20 mins to the early hours of the morning. Shower so old and shower head had no pressure. No tissues available, windows wouldn't open or close properly. Bed was uncomfortable. Nothing in the bar fridge. Curtains didn't close so the light was coming through the window all night. Didn't matter because we couldn't sleep anyway. 🤣

False advertising for a start

Get there to be told we are at their sister accommodation which has no restaurant/bar … which was Our big reason for choosing this place! Dirty bedding, curtains hanging off railings. Cupboard doors dirty. Masking tape still on the walls. Obviously by the bad reviews the management don’t care as haven’t done anything to make things better .
