Mecure Abel Tasman so disappointing....

This Hotel is well situated if you like walking (which we do) with some good restaurants and cafes near by. Big, comfortable bed and great shower with plenty of hot water and good pressure. Sadly, there are way more negatives about this hotel than positives. We had to walk past vomit stained carpet (old) to get to our room on the 6th floor (we did mention this at reception and was told that yes, they were aware and thought that the carpet was going to be replaced, at some stage). The tap at the base of the toilet leaked so after filling the cistern, we had to turn this off otherwise we ended up with a puddle on the floor (we also mentioned this to reception but nothing was done). There were what looked like wads of toilet paper stuffed into two holes in the roof above the toilet. The window leaked when closed and left puddles on the sill. The walls are paper thin so you can hear everything happening in the adjacent rooms so assume they can hear you. Light poured in under the main door so much so that we had to lay clothes down to darken the room at night. This is a classic case of "you get what you pay for" and I would definitely not stay at Mecure Abel Tasman again.

Cheap, cheerful, central, in need of a re-furb.

Very cheap rate, & you get what you pay for! Location in city is great, but as others have said, it’s in need of a good do-up: double-glazing, new bathrooms, sound proofing between rooms etc! Having said that, it was clean, and Receptionist was cheerful and helpful. And don’t do what I did and use the coffee sachets – treat yourself to a decent Welly coffee! We had a breakfast included. Again, staff were lovely, plenty of food. I’m guessing the advertised on-site parking is always taken - we were directed immediately to the nearby parking building. It is right next door, but it’s not secure and is pretty seedy as you’d expect. But, car was still there and unscathed in the morning. You can leave it there for 24 hours from check in, so handy if you want to wander Welly after checking out. It’s full of city parkers during the day so seemed safe, & we did see a security guy doing a drive-through. Summary: cheap & cheerful, great location, but not the most glam joint you’ll ever stay at.

Disgusting

FILTHY.. throughout.. broken mirror in bedroom, held together with tape. Mildew on the windows, shower and basically throughout the bathroom. Even the room fan is full of dust, and rattles. The view is great ( city views on the web site) Yep, a dirty grey wall 4mtrs away. NO SECURE PARKING AVAILABLE ON SITE… unlike that stated on the web site. Parking available in the car park next door.. comes complete with bongs and needles.. and only $35 for 24 hrs. I hope our car is still there tomorrow.. Do NOT believe anything on the website… it appears to be out of date..eg. Top of the page states cash is fine.. further day… NO CASH, Don’t use the desk in room 301, it’s broken. We have stayed at Mercure hotels for many years but this one is disgusting. Never again. Bad news, we’re here for another night

So noisy I could not sleep

Stayed in this hotel for two nights as part of my tour of NZ. On arrival it appeared to be 'tired' and facilities were limited. The breakfast was exceptionally poor quality with frozen fruit, cold 'hot' offerings, limited other food and only filter coffee available. I asked for 2 poached eggs and waited 25 mins for this. My bedroom (410) was shabby and run down and had no double glazing. As it overlooked the very busy main road junction outside it was incredibly noisy. There was a bar with an outside terrace across the road which was very busy and this noise penetrated into my room. On the saturday night my fit bit recorded that I had 2hrs 36 mins sleep. All in all I would not recommend this hotel to anyone who is a light sleeper and if you are ask for a room not facing out onto the main road. I also used the laundry facilities. A tiny room under the hotel in the car park....very shabby.

Good Location ... But Anly verage At Best...

Mercure is considered a mid-tier chain, but I would rate this hotel average at best, and probably more high-end budget than mid-tier. Still, at a competitive rate per night, it is a good choice for budget-minded travelers who are looking for basic accommodations in a good location. Room was somewhat small but adequate and clean. Basic furnishings including a comfortable bed, and desktop with chair. No power outlets anywhere near the desk. Fortunately I travel with a long extension cord, and this was needed in order to power my laptop computer, which I use a lot when traveling. Wi-fil connection was spotty. Service at reception was cordial and efficient. Elevator requires room key in order to be able to access guest floors providing an extra level of guest security. Location is convenient to shopping, restaurants, most of the CBD, and is within reasonable walking distance of Lambton Quay. Close to many bus route and the Airport Express bus.
