Restaurant doesn't cater for non-dairy very well

TripAdvisor rating 3.0/5

tufone TripAdvisor review

Breakfast meeting in the restaurant. I eat here regularly and the staff are very freindly. I am so disappointed that they do not have non-dairy alternatives for butter. I ask every time and the waiters say they will ask the chef. Every month I ask and there is never any change. I wonder why they refuse to provide this very simple ingredient. It means that I am unable to 'butter' the bread. They do offer olive oil, but it is usually a very strong taste and doesn't go well with jam. They do provide alternatives to dairy milk for the coffee, which is much appreciated. What is it that stops them providing Olivani or some other well respected spread?

I am Platinum Accor Plus, in the past year we have changed almost all of our hotel loyalty to the group, and we have generally been very pleased. This is our 4th or 5th stay at the hotel. The hotel is very expensive, so we expect a quality product. On checking in we were given room 704. It was an awful room, dowdy and dark, on a lower floor with a good view of the cemetery and motorway. We didn't even unpack. It took 4 complaints over the following 2-3 hours to get moved. It was extremely upsetting and stressful. The excuse was that the hotel was fully booked. We were told we should have requested an upper floor room. We were finally moved (after our multiple complaints) to room 1111, which is small, but very pleasant, identical to room 1011 where we were the previous time. As Platinum paying almost $600 per night we should have at the very least been given an upper floor room, and a nice room, not one of the worst in the hotel. The tiny size isn't the main factor, it was a horrible room, a (very expensive) dump. We should never be expected to ask for what we should get as of right. Giving high status guests an upper floor good room is normal practice, hotel management 101, we should not have to ask. The only person who took ownership of the problem was Toni at check out. She asked how our stay was, when I told her (not expecting or asking for anything) she forgave the $50 per night parking. The club lounge is great. The dinner in the restaurant was good. Breakfast is OK. The staff are generally really good. We love the location of the hotel, and expect to have to make lots more visits to Wellington, but the very high price and poor treatment on this occasion will have us looking elsewhere.
