The hotel is starting to look a tad tired. I also note that the picture of the reception area on the front of this survey is nothing like the actual reception area of the Novotel Wellington The Terrace. Disappointing to find that NONE of the hotel's in-room safes were working. Staff were very efficient and helpful. The promised text on things to do in Wgtn never arrived however this is probably an automated notification from Accor rather than the Novotel Wellington. Also disappointing that you can not reserve one of the limited carparks until you check-in - not helpful for those of us who work for a living and hence end up checking in at the end of a long work day & driving several hundred kms. Luckily we managed to get one this trip.

I flew in to Wellington and went straight to the hotel. Reception staff were very warm, welcoming and able to check me in earlier as the room was ready. The room is very well designed, love the splashes of red and use of lighting gives it a really modern feel. I ordered lunch, Teriyaki Chicken Donburi which was delicious. Dinner, again, was delicious and a good selection of middle range wines (I had the Roaring Meg Pinot Noir). Unfortunately, the Breakfast Service let the hotel down. It was almost expected that I was to know how breakfast worked even though I had not been here before. It was on me to ask questions; Do you do barista coffees? If I want Eggs Benedict which box do I tick or is there a menu? After figuring out that I write my room number down, tick some boxes and find a place to sit. I thought we had it. I waited for a waitress to come take my order of Eggs Benedict only to have to walk up to one of them and ask if they could take my order. Apparently this is done by telling the chef what you want; this is not very clear as a first time guest. After informing the Chef that I would like Eggs Benedict I helped myself to an OJ and a slice of toast. The Mocha I ordered arrived and it was good. The Eggs Benedict arrived, I took one bite and realised that the Chef had prepared it on Crumpets?!? Now, I am fairly new to Eggs Benedict, having only started having them within the last 4 years, however, I have never had them on Crumpets and I can see why. It is awful and would not recommend. I had no time to be able to request a new plate or complain and promptly left to check out. I had to confirm with my friend later whether they had ever had Eggs Benedict served on Crumpets and the answer was a very firm no. Overall great hotel, well situated with good rooms, friendly reception and delicious lunches and dinners. Let down on Breakfast Service and the Chef's idea of a good Eggs Benedict.
